Freevee, Prime Video Announce Upcoming Content Details; ‘America’s Test Kitchen,’ NFL, Disney

Amazon has unveiled a package of new content for its suite of streamers Freevee, Prime Video, and user-generated service Twitch. During an announcement at the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s (IAB) NewFronts in New York City, Amazon executives showcased new original shows for free streaming service Freevee (formerly known as IMDb TV), fresh news about Prime Video’s premiere season hosting Thursday night NFL games, and more.

TBD

Amazon SVP Colleen Aubrey shared her excitement for the slate of upcoming content. “At NewFronts, we’re thrilled to show how we’ve applied this passion for delighting customers to create compelling content and experiences across Amazon Freevee, Prime Video, Twitch, and Amazon Music.”

Freevee is Getting Original Shows and Some Disney Films

Amazon’s advertising-based video on demand (AVOD) service will soon carry several new original shows, including cooking contest “America’s Test Kitchen: The Next Generation” and family-oriented competition “Play-Doh Squished.”

Freevee viewers will also get to enjoy “Post Malone: Runaway,” a documentary about the face-tattooed musician, and a second season of Prime Video spinoff series “Bosch: Legacy.” There will also be third and fourth seasons of UNINTERRUPTED’s “Top Class: The Life and Times of the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers.”

Additionally, Freevee has secured short-term licensing deals for several Disney-owned films including “Logan,” the “Deadpool” movies, and “The Post.”

The AVOD streamer has also established exclusive linear channels that will run shows such as beloved Canadian sitcom “Kim’s Convenience” and classic episodes of “The Kids in the Hall.” New episodes of the iconic sketch comedy series will debut on Prime Video this month.

Freevee

Freevee video streaming service was Amazon’s free, ad-supported streaming service offering a mix of movies, TV shows, live FAST channels, and original programming. Originally launched as IMDb TV before rebranding to Amazon Freevee in 2022, the service featured licensed library content alongside exclusives such as “Jury Duty,” “Bosch: Legacy,” and “Judy Justice.” Its lineup spanned drama, comedy, reality, true crime, and family programming, along with curated live channels covering news, sports highlights, and classic TV.

In 2024, Amazon began phasing out the Freevee brand and integrating its content directly into Prime Video. Rather than operating as a standalone app, Freevee’s free, ad-supported programming is now available within the Prime Video platform under dedicated free sections. Viewers do not need a Prime membership to access this content, though ads are included. The service shut down fully in September 2025.

Freevee programming can be streamed on smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, gaming consoles, mobile devices, and web browsers through the Prime Video app. With its transition to Prime Video, the service’s free library continues to offer a wide range of on-demand and live streaming options for viewers looking to watch without a subscription.

With its blend of recognizable library titles, original series, and live channels, Freevee helped establish Amazon as a major player in the FAST space before being folded into the broader Prime Video experience.

“Thursday Night Football” Returns Sept. 15

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also appeared at the NewFronts to talk about Amazon’s continuing coverage of “Thursday Night Football.” Goodell was joined by famed play-by-play announcer Al Michaels and analyst Kirk Herbstreit to share their enthusiasm for the upcoming games, which will stream on Amazon Prime Video and Twitch.

Everything kicks off with an AFC West matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 15. Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez is also joining the “Thursday Night Football” team as an in-studio analyst.

Prime Video

Prime Video is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 10,000+ movies, TV shows, and Prime Originals like “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” “Jack Ryan,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “The Boys,” and more. Subscribers can also add third-party services like Max, Showtime, STARZ, and dozens more with Prime Video Channels. Prime Video also offers exclusive live access to NFL Thursday Night Football.

Prime Video is included with Amazon Prime for $14.99 per month ($139 per year), or can be purchased on its own for $8.99 per month. A standalone, ad-supported version costs $8.99 per month, while the upgraded Prime Video Ultra tier, costing an extra $4.99 per month or $45.99 per year, adds Dolby Atmos support, ups video quality to 4K UHD, removes ads, and allows for 100 downloads and 5 simultaneous streams. Prime Video offers a 30-day free trial.

Prime Video currently offers over 25,000 movies and TV episodes, many of which are original productions. Live sports coverage includes NFL Thursday Night Football as well as select NBA, WNBA, and NWSL events.
