‘Gavin & Stacey’ creators Corden, Jones sign on with Apple TV+
James Corden and Ruth Jones will create and star in a new series for Apple’s streaming service.
Apple TV+ knows a winning duo when it sees one. The streaming service is bringing on the creators of one of the most popular BBC comedies of the past 20 years in order to create a new series for itself. As reported by the Daily Mail, James Corden and Ruth Jones — creators of the beloved British comedy series “Gavin & Stacey” — will create a new show for Apple TV+, to debut in the coming years.
Key Details:
- Rich deal: Corden and Jones have signed a seven-figure deal to create the show.
- Not related: From the sound of things, the series won’t be closely related to “Gavin & Stacey..”
- Still a ways out: Casting has not begun for the show yet.
The Daily Mail’s reporting indicates that Corden and Jones have signed a seven-figure deal with Apple TV+, which will lead to the creation of a new series with an all-British cast. Corden and Jones will star in the show as well as write it, and shooting will begin next year.
The show is not going to feature any characters from “Gavin & Stacey,” and will also “focus on a format” way from the series. “Gavin & Stacey” first debuted in 2007 and consists of 19 total episodes spread across three seasons from 2007-2010, as well as three specials produced in 2008, 2019, and 2024. Corden and Jones star in the show, as well.
Their new drama series will be “gentle, uplifting, and funny,” according to an insider who spoke with The Sun, per the Daily Mail’s reporting. This insider pointed to Corden’s good relationship with Apple TV+ as being one reason the streamer landed the sought-after project; Corden is the co-creator and executive producer of “Carpool Karaoke: The Series” on Apple TV+.
The show will have 10 episodes, and is not indicated to be a limited series, which means there’s a chance for multiple seasons. Casting has not yet begun for the show, however, and it is not expected to arrive on Apple TV+ until 2027, barring any unforeseen production delays.
