Gemini AI coming to Google TV devices in the near future

Google says it wants to make the user experience on its TV operating system ‘more intuitive and helpful.’

Google TV devices will get an enhancement from Gemini AI this year

It seems harder and harder to avoid artificial intelligence (AI) these days. Google’s Gemini AI is one of the latest models to reach consumers, and soon, it will be embedded in the Google TV operating system (OS) as well. According to an announcement made by Google at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the company plans to begin embedding its AI model in Google TV devices in the coming months.

Key Details:

  • Gemini features will roll out on select Google TV devices “later this year.
  • Searching for video will be easier than ever with Gemini’s assistance, according to Google.
  • Viewers will have greater control over smart home devices, and will even be able to create customized artwork.

According to a Google blog post, Gemini AI will be introduced to select Google TV devices “later this year. ” Presumably, this will include the latest Google TV-operated streaming device and the Google TV Streamer, though the company did not specifically confirm that. TCL and Hisense TVs with the Google TV operating system embedded were named as partners in the rollout.

Adding Gemini to Google TV-powered systems will allow viewers to have a “natural conversation” with their TV, helping them discover more about topics like travel, health, space, history, and more. Viewers will be able to ask follow-up questions and will be shown videos to add more context to their results.

Owners of Google TV devices with Gemini equipped will also be able to search for TV shows, movies, and YouTube videos with more conversational questions, which could lead to improved search results and a happier audience overall. Viewers will be able to search with questions like “What was the biggest movie from Paramount this year?”

Furthermore, the addition of Gemini will let viewers “create customized artwork with the family, control your smart home devices while your TV is in ambient mode, and even get an overview of the day’s news.” It’s an update with implications far beyond simply finding something new to stream a little more easily, though that is an important aspect of the Gemini update.
