New ‘Google TV Streamer’ Details Announced: Price, Launch Date, More
The next evolution in Google streaming devices will make its way to customers at the end of next month.
At long last, Google has officially unveiled its newest streaming device. The new player was first rumored to be under construction in April, when it was assumed that Google was simply creating a new Chromecast model to offer customers. But on Tuesday, Google revealed some important details about the new device, including a price point and the date when customers would finally be able to get their hands on it.
Key Details:
- The new Google TV Streamer will cost $99.99.
- The device goes on sale on Sept. 24, and customers can preorder now.
- The Google TV Streamer will use AI and viewer history to compile recommendations across multiple streaming apps.
The new player from Google ditches the old “Chromecast” branding in favor of a new, simplified name: Google TV Streamer. The device will offer the same access to all your favorite streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube TV and many others, but leaves the dongle design behind.
Instead, the Google TV Streamer is more like a pill-shaped, set-top box. It will come with 32GB of storage, 4GB of memory, and of course the ability to stream content in Ultra-High-Definition 4K. It also offers the ability to connect via Wi-Fi or ethernet, so you can control your connection. The device also comes with an ambient mode, which is programmable with pictures you choose or will show AI-generated screensaver art.

Other features of the Google TV Streamer include a redesigned remote, complete with a customizable button that lets you open your favorite app with just a click, as well as a remote finder that beeps if you lose it. Connectivity support for Matter is built into the Google TV Streamer, so your smart home devices can work together as a team.
When Will Google TV Streamer Ship, and How Much Is It?
The Google TV Streamer will retail for $99.99, which may sound expensive for a streaming player. But as high-end devices go, this is not a bad value; Amazon’s Fire TV Cube, for example, normally retails for $139.99, despite having half the storage ability and memory of the new Google TV Streamer. The 32GB of storage for the Google TV Streamer is four times as much as the Roku Ultra, despite the two players coming in at the same price point.
The device will go on sale on Sept. 24, but shoppers can preorder it now and make sure that when the device is ready to head to market, they’ll be some of the first to get their hands on it.
If you’re in the market for a faster, more powerful streaming device with an intuitive interface that’s easy to set up and use, the Google TV Streamer seems like a perfect fit for your needs. It even comes with free entertainment, as the 800+ free streaming channels that were incorporated into Google TV in 2023 will be available on the new Google TV Streamer as well.
