A guide to turning off mobile notifications on Netflix.

One major change streaming has wrought in entertainment consumption is that audiences can now watch TV from just about anywhere. Thanks to the wide availability of smartphones, viewers can watch essentially whichever streaming apps they want on mobile devices wherever they can find an internet connection.

Not only does every major streaming service offer its own mobile app these days, but most will send push notifications directly to your phone with promotional offers, new TV and movie releases, and other details. Netflix’s app is among those that send notifications to a viewer’s phone, but can you toggle those notifications on or off? Find out what you need to know below!

What you need to know about mobile notifications on Netflix

How to turn notifications on or off with Netflix

Enabling or disabling mobile notifications on the Netflix app is a pretty simple process. You can adjust the notification settings for each device attached to your Netflix account separately. To change those settings on your phone, use the Netflix mobile app.

  1. Open the Netflix mobile app.
  2. Click on My Netflix at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Click the three-line menu in the top right.
  4. Tap App Settings.
  5. Toggle the Allow Notifications slider on or off.

What will Netflix send notifications about?

If enabled, Netflix’s mobile notifications will inform subscribers of the release of new seasons of shows saved in their My List tab, as well as titles coming to or leaving the streamer soon. Netflix will also send recommendations via notification, updates on games, alerts for titles a viewer has asked to be reminded about, and account security updates.

Viewers may well want to keep these notifications active in order to get the most timely and important information possible from the streamer. If you’d rather turn off push notifications from Netflix, however, the steps above will help you do so with ease.
