One of the best things about any streaming service — audio or video — is the fact that customers can cancel their subscription whenever they like and not be on the hook for finishing out a long-term contract. Customers of Audible have this freedom; any time you need to cancel an Audible subscription you can do so, and you will no longer have to pay for the service following the conclusion of your current billing cycle.

But some streamers also allow customers to pause their subscriptions instead of canceling. Does Audible give its listeners the option to pause? Learn everything you need to know about pausing an Audible subscription in our guide below.

Everything you need to know about pausing Audible

Can you pause an Audible subscription?

Yes, monthly Audible subscribers are allowed to pause their subscription instead of canceling if they wish to avoid being billed for the streamer for a temporary period. Listeners who are subscribed to annual Audible plans are not eligible to pause their account.

Audible Premium Plus subscribers can also pause a free trial. Pausing during a promotional pricing period on Audible does not extend the deal price.

How long can you pause Audible for?

Eligible customers can pause an Audible subscription for a total of 90 days every 12 months. Listeners can pause Audible for one month at a time and are limited to three pauses in a 12-month period. Audible customers can choose to pause for 30, 60, or 90 days when pausing.

Yes, you can resume a paused Audible subscription any time you like by navigating to your Membership details on the streamer’s website, then clicking Resume membership. Your payments will restart at your next billing period, and you’ll be able to use your membership benefits immediately.

What can you listen to while Audible is paused?

Audible Standard subscribers are still able to listen to any titles purchased with cash, buy new titles with cash, and access sales. However, no new monthly listens will count while Audible is paused, and listeners will not be able to access to their titles chosen as monthly listens or the Audible podcast catalog.

Audible Premium Plus customers will not have access to the included catalog, nor will they receive any new credits. However, they can use existing credits, listen to any purchased titles (either with cash or credits), and buy new titles with cash as well.

Why pause Audible instead of canceling?

Audible’s pause feature is perfect for listeners who just need a break but want to keep their subscription available. It’s especially handy for Premium Plus customers who have built up a number of credits and don’t need to accrue any more for the time being, and thus want to avoid being charged monthly for Audible for a given period.

Anyone traveling to a territory not on the list of 180 countries in which Audible is available may also want to consider pausing, which will help them avoid being charged for a service they won’t be able to use. Audible’s pause feature is a great way to not have to pay for a subscription without having to fear losing access to your library and account settings permanently.
