So, you’re the proud owner of a new Amazon Fire TV streaming device. But what now? The Fire TV streaming device user experience is one of the most easy to navigate of any streaming player, but it can be a little tricky to set one up if you’ve never done so before.
You can officially lay your fears about not being able to use the device to rest, however. I’m the owner of a Fire TV set myself, and am here to help you set up your new device so you can spend less time reading the instructions and more time watching the TV you love most!

- Plug your Fire TV device into a power outlet, if applicable. If your Fire TV stick or device does not have a power cord, it will draw power directly from the set itself.
- Choose an HDMI port to connect your Fire TV to.
- Put the batteries in your Fire TV remote, and turn on the TV. If the remote doesn’t pair automatically, press and hold the Home button.
- Navigate to the HDMI input you plugged into.
- Connect to your Wi-Fi by following on-screen instructions.
- Sign into your Amazon account, or create one.
- Select the apps you want to download on your Fire TV device.
- Calibrate the remote.
That’s it! You’re now ready to start using your Fire TV streaming device to watch all your favorite shows, movies, and linear channels.
What streaming apps are compatible with Amazon Fire TV?
Amazon Fire TV devices are compatible with nearly all of the most popular streaming apps on the market. Viewers can download dedicated apps for Netflix, Apple TV+,Disney+, Hulu, Max, Paramount+, Peacock, Prime Video, STARZ and many other top streamers.
Amazon Fire TV also supports live TV streaming apps, such as the DIRECTV app, Fubo, Philo, Sling TV, and YouTube TV. Fire TV devices are a great tool for streaming households to use to watch all their favorite content. Keep in mind that you will still need separate subscriptions to watch the streaming services you download apps for on your Fire TV.
Can you customize the Fire TV interface?
Yes, you can! On your Alexa remote, you will find a button with three horizontal lines that you can use to swap apps in and out of your favorites row. This will allow you to navigate to your most-used apps quickly and easily.
Does your new Fire TV player enable 4K content?
There are several models of Fire TV streaming players that allow viewers to watch Ultra-High-Definition 4K content, including the Fire TV 4K Stick and the Fire TV Cube.
If you have one of these devices, you will be able to watch content in stunning 4K, so long as you have a compatible TV and that content is being offered in 4K in the first place. Check with the streamer you’re using to ensure that the title is available in 4K.
