When are the 2026 Academy Award nomination announcements?

Acclaimed actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman will announce the 2026 Academy Award nominations on Thursday, Jan. 22. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET, which is very early on the West Coast, but you know all of Hollywood will be up, hoping to hear their names called.

The 98th annual Oscars will take place at the Dolby Theater on March 15, beginning at 7 p.m. ET, and will be broadcast on ABC.

How to watch the 2026 Academy Award nominations

There are numerous ways for you to be able to watch the 98th annual Academy Award nominations. Let’s start with the most traditional way. The nominations will air as part of “Good Morning America” on ABC. So, you can either watch the broadcast channel via an over-the-air antenna or with a subscription to a live TV streaming service. If you don’t have one of those already, we would recommend DIRECTV, because it offers the longest guaranteed free trial in the industry at five days. While other services can offer up to two weeks before you pay, you have to meet certain criteria to get the offer.

It’s also worth noting that, traditionally, broadcast channels only air the highest profile categories when it comes to nominations. So, if you want to see all of the below-the-line noms as well, ABC might not be the best option. Now, there are other ways that you will be able to watch the announcement.

Another free option that you can use to watch the Oscar noms announcement is on ABC News Live. The around-the-clock ABC News free ad-supported stream TV (FAST) channel is available on numerous platforms, including Hulu, Disney+, YouTube TV, YouTube, The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, Tubi, and more. The final four of those options are free.

The Academy will also be airing the announcements on its social media pages, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook. That means, if you want to watch on your computer or mobile device, you can just stream the announcements via the video below.

About the 2026 Academy Award nominations

Earlier this month, the Golden Globes got the award season underway, with films like “One Battle After Another,” “Hamnet,” and “KPop Demon Hunters” taking home major awards. While the Globes are always entertaining and can give us some insight into where the mood of Hollywood is on films, it is generally not predictive of future Oscar results, as the Globes are voted on by critics, while the Oscars are determined by working professionals in the entertainment industry.

Nonetheless, keep an eye on the previously mentioned films, along with critical successes like “Sinners,” “Sentimental Value,” “Marty Supreme,” “The Secret Agent,” and “If I Had Legs I'd Kick You,” when the nominations are announced.

For the second-straight year, Conan O’Brien will host Hollywood’s biggest night from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. The Oscars will air on ABC on Sunday, March 15, and despite being on the Disney-owned channel for decades, will wrap up its tenure on the network in 2028, before moving exclusively to YouTube in 2029.
