Why watch ‘Below’ on Netflix?

Because it’s the only place you can watch it. “Below” is a Netflix original series, so you’ll need a subscription to watch it. Tara and I have the $9 per month plan with ads (we usually don’t mind the commercials), but you can go ad-free for $20 per month, and upgrade to 4K and HDR for $27 per month.

Can you watch ‘Below’ for free?

Nope. At this moment, Netflix doesn’t offer a free trial in the U.S., so there’s no good way to watch “Below” for free when it drops. Now, that doesn’t mean Netflix won’t eventually introduce a free trial here. They are currently testing free trials in other territories so here’s hoping that eventually spreads to the U.S. But for now, you’ll need a subscription.

What is ‘Below’ about?

“Below” follows Calvin Penney (Josh Hartnett) as a fisherman in a small town in Newfoundland. He’s still got questions about his father’s death a few decades earlier, when something in the water starts attacking the community. Calvin’s got a son, Wade (Charlie Heaton), he needs to protect, and he teams up with a marine researcher, Fonda Howander (Mackenzie Davis) to figure out what exactly they’re dealing with.

So there’s the mystery of what kind of monster this is. But there’s also a deeper question: why this island? What secrets are the island and the people who have made a life here hiding? So you get a big monster problem, along with a deep mythology, family drama, and thriller in a very unique location all rolled into one. For Halloween, there’s nothing better!
