What is ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 about?
Season 4 shifts the story to Benedict Bridgerton, who’s watched his siblings pair off while feeling zero urgency to settle down himself. Everything shifts the moment he crosses paths with a mysterious guest at Violet Bridgerton’s masquerade party, someone he later comes to know only as the Lady in Silver.
What Benedict doesn’t realize is that she’s Sophie Baek, a sharp and determined housemaid working for the demanding Lady Araminta Gun. Sophie sneaks into the ball in disguise, and the moment she and Benedict meet, the classic Cinderella spark hits instantly. The season pulls from Julia Quinn’s novel “An Offer from a Gentleman” but expands the story with deeper themes about class, identity, and the impossible distance between their two worlds.
Across eight episodes, the season explores how these two connect, clash, and grow while dealing with the pressure of the society around them. It’s bound to be romantic, complicated, and full of the fairy tale energy longtime fans have been waiting for Benedict to finally step into.
Who stars in ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4?
Season 4 brings back a strong mix of returning cast members along with several new faces who shake up the ton. Luke Thompson leads the season as Benedict Bridgerton, finally stepping into the role book fans have been waiting to see on screen. Yerin Ha joins as Sophie Baek, the Lady in Silver, whose connection with Benedict drives the emotional core of the season.
Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton return as Penelope and Colin, now married and settling into their new lives. Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley are back as Anthony and Kate as they prepare for their move to India. Claudia Jessie returns as Eloise, who left for Scotland at the end of Season 3, and Hannah Dodd continues her journey as Francesca. Adjoa Andoh, Golda Rosheuvel, Julie Andrews, and Ruth Gemmell also return to anchor the Bridgerton world with their familiar roles.
New additions this season include Katie Leung as the formidable Lady Araminta Gun, Michelle Mao as Rosamund Li, and Isabella Wei as Posy Li, all of whom play major roles in the social and romantic tension surrounding Benedict and Sophie.
What happened in the last season of ‘Bridgerton’?
Spoiler alert! The following contains spoilers for Season 3 of ‘Bridgerton.’
Season 3 wrapped with several big twists. Penelope revealed she was Lady Whistledown in the middle of a ball, shutting down Cressida’s blackmail plot and freeing herself from the years of secrecy that had strained her relationships. After making a deal with the Queen, she retires the Whistledown name and starts writing as Penelope Bridgerton.
Francesca married John, and the two left for Scotland with John’s cousin Michaela. Eloise chose to travel with them, opening the door for a fresh direction in her story.
Benedict ended his relationship with Tilly Arnold after realizing she wanted something more serious. He left Season 3 single, curious, and ready for something new, which is exactly where Season 4 picks up. Violet started feeling a spark with Lord Marcus Anderson, while Anthony and Kate prepared to begin their next chapter in India.
Finally, Cressida was sent away to live with her aunt, though the show left room for her return in the future. Colin put out a book that barely captured the interest of high society, who seemed far more invested in other scandals.
Is ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 based on a book?
Yep. Season 4 adapts Julia Quinn’s novel “An Offer From a Gentleman,” which is the third book in the Bridgerton series. It’s a Cinderella-inspired romance centered on Benedict and Sophie. The show makes its own adjustments for television, but the key elements like the masked ball, the secret identity angle, and the massive gap in status between Benedict and Sophie are all pulled from the original story.
