Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are back together in ‘Brothers’
‘Brothers’ reunites the ‘True Detective’ stars for a strange new story built around their real-life friendship.
I’ve been thinking about Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson teaming up again since “True Detective” Season 1. That show was dark, weird, and Rust and Marty were a mess — but the chemistry was the magic. So “Brothers” is a pretty funny idea. Take these two longtime friends in real life… and have them play versions of themselves as brothers in a comedy. I’m in, and you had me at Matthew and Woody. Here’s everything you need to know about “Brothers,” which you can watch with a seven-day free trial of Apple TV.

Yep, you can get a seven-day free trial of Apple TV to watch “Brothers” for free if you’re a new subscriber. After that, Apple TV costs $13 per month — and based on the rate Tara and I rip through Apple TV shows, that price is well worth it.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

What is ‘Brothers’ about?
“Brothers” follows McConaughey and Harrelson playing fictionalized versions of themselves. Then, they find out they might actually be brothers. The story starts when Woody’s daughter’s wedding falls apart, and he brings his family to Matthew’s ranch in Austin. Then Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac (Holland Taylor), accidentally reveals a decades-old secret. Now that’s how you start a family vacation!
The lore of these two together sells the concept for me. There’s a reason people still talk about their “True Detective” pairing. Now you take that real friendship and drop a giant “wait, what?” into the middle of it. Plus Matthew is considering a run for Governor of Texas, which should add some pressure and political intrigue to the whole mess.
Who stars in ‘Brothers’?
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson lead “Brothers.” Holland Taylor plays Ma Mac, whose accidental reveal starts the entire story. The cast also includes Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, and Oona Yaffe.
