About “Challengers”
“Challengers” takes place over a 13-year period and stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy-turned-coach “who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court” who is coaching her husband, Art (Mike Faist), a champion player himself on a losing streak. Their dual path to redemption takes a surprising turn when Art must face off against the washed-up Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor), his former close friend and doubles partner, and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide and tensions run high, the men’s rivalry continues on and off the tennis court and Tashi must ask herself: what will it cost to win?
The film, which had its world premiere in Sydney on March 26, premiered in theaters in the United States on April 26, received critical acclaim, holding an 88% positive review rating on Rotten Tomatoes and grossing over $94 million at the worldwide box office.
Luca Guadagnino steps back behind the camera for Justin Kuritzkes’ feature screenplay debut. The two will collaborate again on the upcoming adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey.
