‘Crew Girl’ could be your next YA romance binge
Miku Martineau stars as a former single-sculls standout trying to find a new way back onto the water.
Rowing doesn’t often get the TV show treatment. Prep-school dramas definitely do, along with love triangles. But rowing? Not usually, and that’s why “Crew Girl” is worth a look. The new YA drama drops on Netflix on Thursday, Sept. 10. Miku Martineau plays Teagan Tao, a teenage rowing star whose life blows up after a family scandal. She gets transferred to an East Coast prep school with no female rowing team and ends up commanding the all-boys crew team. And yes, there are two boys there already competing for her attention. You can stream “Crew Girl” with a subscription to Netflix.

Everything you need to know about ‘Crew Girl’
When will ‘Crew Girl’ come out on Netflix?
“Crew Girl” drops all eight episodes on Netflix on Thursday, Sept. 10. This is a binge situation so you’ll be able to watch every episode (they run about 45 minutes) on launch day.
Why do we recommend Netflix for watching ‘Crew Girl’?
Because it’s the only place you can watch it. “Crew Girl” is a Netflix original, so you’ll need a subscription to stream it. I have the $9 per month ad-supported plan, but there’s also a $20 Standard plan without ads and a $27 Premium plan if you absolutely need 4K.
Can you watch ‘Crew Girl’ for free?
Not right now. Netflix doesn’t offer a free trial in the U.S. at the time of this writing, but keep an eye out because they are offering free trials in other territories, and that could extend here at some point. If they do, it will be big news and hard to miss.

What is ‘Crew Girl’ about?
“Crew Girl” starts with Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau) being very, very good at rowing. She’s 16, competing in single sculls, and looking like she actually has a future in the sport. Then her family gets caught up in a scandal, and that whole version of her life implodes. Teagan moves to the East Coast with her mom, Ella (Jessica Paré), and ends up at Easton Prep. New school, old money, and tons of attractive rowing boys but no women’s rowing team.
So Teagan finds a way — she becomes coxswain for the boys’ varsity crew, which means she’s making calls about steering, pacing, and basically leading a group of guys who are not happy that the new girl is telling them what to do. Then she gets tangled up with Josh Regis (Sam Braun), who’s the cocky captain and one of the school’s golden boys, and Cam Dillinger (Kyle Clark), the quieter, overlooked local looking to prove himself. That’s where the love triangle comes in. One look at the trailer will tell you what kind of show this is — lots of sunsets and swimsuits and water shots and plenty of drama.
