‘Dang!’ brings messy, animated, adult sibling chaos to Netflix

‘Dang!’ brings messy, animated, adult sibling chaos to Netflix

The new series comes from ‘The Good Place’ alums Andrew Law, Matt Murray, and Mike Schur.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.
‘Dang!’ reunites ‘Good Place’ comedy talent at Netflix

I’m pumped for “Dang!” for one very simple reason: this is a new adult animated comedy from a bunch of people who’ve made some of the best TV comedy of the last 15 years. Andrew Law, Matt Murray, and Mike Schur are all involved, and the whole thing sounds like a very funny, very messy sibling comedy set in New York City. Add in Stephanie Hsu and Poppy Liu as part of the voice cast, and things get really interesting. Here’s everything you need to know before “Dang!” hits Netflix.

Everything you need to know about ‘Dang!’

When does ‘Dang!’ come out?

“Dang!” is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2026. Netflix hasn’t announced an exact release date yet, so for now, we’re still waiting on the official day. That said, this is already far enough along that it has a series order, a lead voice cast, a creative team, and an animation studio attached. So this isn’t one of those vague “maybe someday” projects floating around in development. It’s coming, we just don’t know exactly when yet.

Can you watch ‘Dang!’ for free once it starts streaming?

Nope. Since Netflix no longer has a free trial, you’ll need an active subscription to stream “Dang!” once it arrives. The cheapest plan starts at $9 per month with ads, while the ad-free options cost $20 per month and $27 per month.

Netflix

Netflix is a leading subscription-based video streaming service that offers on-demand access to an extensive library of over 3,000 movies, 2,000+ TV shows, and a growing collection of acclaimed Netflix originals. Renowned for producing groundbreaking content, Netflix has become a cultural powerhouse with hit originals like “Stranger Things,” “Wednesday,” “Squid Game,” “The Crown,” “Tiger King,” “Bridgerton,” “The Witcher,” and “Black Mirror.”

…

The platform constantly updates its catalog, introducing fresh content alongside timeless classics and international hits. Netflix’s commitment to storytelling has also earned critical acclaim, with award-winning exclusives such as “Roma,” “Marriage Story,” “The Power of the Dog,” “Mank,” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” In 2023, their animated film “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, further solidifying Netflix’s reputation for high-quality content.

Recently, Netflix has expanded beyond standard movies and TV titles with the addition of video podcasts, and is also exploring a digital store that would offer third-party streamers within the app.

Netflix offers three plans – stream on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard with Ads” ($8.99) plan, on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard” ($19.99) plan, and 4 devices in up to 4K on the “Premium” ($26.99) plan.

What is ‘Dang!’ about?

“Dang!” follows a brother and sister living fun, messy lives in New York City. Things are going pretty well for them, or at least going messily enough that they seem fine with it, until their worst nightmare shows up: their high-achieving older sister, who suddenly wants to hang out. Anyone with siblings gets this immediately. There’s history, resentment, comparison, weird old roles no one can escape, and that specific kind of love where you’d take a bullet for someone but also absolutely cannot sit next to them at brunch.

The show is also an adult animated comedy, so expect this to be more raunchy, sharp, and weird than a standard family sitcom. Based on the way Andrew Law has talked about the series, it sounds like “Dang!” is going to lean into a more grown-up, slightly filthy sense of humor while still trying to make you care about these ridiculous people. That’s the sweet spot for this kind of show. Funny first, messy always, but hopefully with some real heart underneath.

Who stars in ‘Dang!’?

The lead voice cast for “Dang!” includes Andrew Law, Poppy Liu, and Stephanie Hsu. Law voices the brother, Liu voices the sister, and Hsu voices their high-achieving older sister who crashes into their lives.

Who is making ‘Dang!’?

“Dang!” is created and written by Andrew Law, who also serves as showrunner alongside Matt Murray. Law, Murray, and Mike Schur all worked together on “The Good Place,” which is a pretty strong reason to pay attention here. That show was very good at taking big emotional ideas and turning them into fast, strange, extremely human comedy.
