About ‘Étoile’

From the collective creators and producers of “Gilmore Girls,” “Bunheads,” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” this new series takes them inside the high-stakes, somewhat ridiculous world of ballet. In New York and Paris, two world-renowned ballet companies are struggling to survive until they decide to swap their best dancers in hopes of generating enough interest to get things right.

“Étoile” follows the dancers and artistic staffs of these two companies as they navigate this ambitious plan that just might decide their professional and creative futures.

The series will feature numerous stars who will be familiar to audiences who have watched Amy Sherman-Palladino shows in the past, including Emmy-winner Luke Kirby, Gideon Glick, and Yanic Truesdale. Also leading the series will be Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lou de Laâge, David Alvarez, Ivan du Pontavice, Taïs Vinolo, David Haig, LaMay Zhang, and Simon Callow.

Other shows by Amy Sherman-Palladino

If the eight-episode binge of “Étoile” gets your juices flowing for more hyper-intelligent, fast-paced banter, then you can check out the three other shows created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, all of which she also produced with her director husband Dan.

While short-lived, if you want to stick in the world of ballet — albeit at a much lower level — you should check out ABC Family’s “Bunheads.” It only lasted one season, but it is a delightful gem set in a youth ballet school of a show that showed how the Palladinos could navigate the world of dance.

Of course, the genius writing and storytelling of “Gilmore Girls” and “Mrs. Maisel” will provide even more opportunities to immerse yourself in the rapid-fire, walk-and-talk style of ASP.
