Binge your new favorite summer romance ‘Every Year After’
Based on Carley Fortune’s best-selling novel, the series leans hard into first love, regret, and long summer memories.
I love a good summer lake story. Give me a lake house, first love, long looks across the water, and feelings that refuse to fully go away, and I’m already sold. So yeah, I’m very ready for Prime Video’s upcoming series “Every Year After.” It’s based on Carley Fortune’s “Every Summer After,” a book that absolutely broke people in half emotionally, in a good way. The show looks like it’s going all in on nostalgia, regret, and that very specific ache of first love. If you loved “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” this should 100% be on your radar. Here’s everything you need to know before “Every Year After” hits streaming.

What is ‘Every Year After’ about?
“Every Year After” is all about a love that starts early, feels huge, and then completely falls apart. The story follows Persephone “Percy” Fraser and Sam Florek, two kids who spend their summers growing up together in the lakeside town of Barry’s Bay in Canada. They’re best friends. Then they’re more than that. And then one mistake blows everything up.
Years later, Percy gets pulled back to the place she left behind and has to face Sam, the life she walked away from, and the version of herself that never really moved on. The show moves back and forth between the past and the present, soaking in those perfect early summers and then sitting with what comes after. It’s romantic, a little painful, and very much about how some relationships leave a permanent mark, whether they work out or not.

Who stars in ‘Every Year After’?
Sadie Soverall plays Percy, with Matt Cornett starring opposite her as Sam. Michael Bradway shows up as Charlie, an important part of Percy’s world. The supporting cast includes Aurora Perrineau as Chantal, Abigail Cowen as Delilah, and Joseph Chiu as Jordie.
Elisha Cuthbert also joins the series in a recurring role as Sam’s mom, Sue Florek. Between the leads and the larger ensemble, this really feels like a show Prime Video is thinking about beyond just one season.
Why is the title different than the book?
The book is called “Every Summer After,” but the series goes by “Every Year After.” Fortune has explained that the new title gives the show more breathing room beyond a single season or timeframe. It opens things up to a bigger story that isn’t limited to just summers, which definitely feels intentional if Prime Video is hoping to turn this into a multi-season thing.
