Hollywood Black explores the experience of Black creators in Hollywood in a way that has never been shown before.

Although more and more Black stories are making their way to TV screens and movie theaters, the experience of Black filmmakers, actors, and other creatives in Hollywood has been largely overlooked. The new docuseries “Hollywood Black,” premiering on the MGM+ App starting Sunday, Aug. 11, aims to help in rectifying that. The series explores Hollywood from the silent era all the way to the present day, through the lens of key Black figures who made Tinseltown what it is today. Stream the series with a 7-Day Free Trial of MGM+ App.

How to Watch ‘Hollywood Black’

About ‘Hollywood Black’

Inspired by the book from historian Donald Bogle, this four-part docuseries, directed by Justin Simien, chronicles a century of the Black experience in Hollywood. By unearthing personal stories from actors, writers, directors, and producers who fought for their place on the page, behind the camera, and on the screen, the series provides a critical reexamination of a quintessentially American story - in brilliant color.

The series features contributions from some of the best-known voices in Black filmmaking today, including Justin Simien, W. Kamau Bell, Steven Caple, Jr., Ryan Coogler, Ava DuVernay, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Issa Rae, LaKeith Stanfield, Gabrielle Union, Lena Waithe, Forest Whitaker, and more.
