Stanley Tucci plans to steal the Mona Lisa in ‘Masterplan’

Stanley Tucci plans to steal the Mona Lisa in ‘Masterplan’

The actor plays a legendary thief who recruits his two long-lost children to help him rob the Louvre.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.

The words Stanley Tucci and Mona Lisa will always get my attention. I was lucky enough to see the painting at the Louvre last year, and it was one of the highlights of my life. Now, in Tucci’s new movie “Masterplan” on Prime Video, he plans to steal it. But the legendary thief needs help, so he brings on two young specialists — Simona Tabasco and Victor Belmondo – to help him. The twist? He’s actually their father, and he’s waiting for the right moment to tell them. Oof! “Masterplan” drops on Friday, Oct. 16, and you can watch with a 30-day free trial of Prime Video.

Everything you need to know about ‘Masterplan’

When will ‘Masterplan’ come out on Prime Video?

“Masterplan” drops on Prime Video on Friday, Oct. 16 around the world. It’s kind of fitting because it was a French-Italian production, shot in English so you’ve got a production model to match the globe-trotting vibe.

Why do we recommend Prime Video for watching ‘Masterplan’?

The short answer is because it’s the only place you can watch it. “Masterplan” is a Prime Video original movie, so you’ll need to sign up to stream it. There’s plenty more to watch on the platform, though, so it’s worth checking out beyond just “Masterplan.”

Can you watch ‘Masterplan’ for free?

Yes! You can watch “Masterplan” for free if you’re a new subscriber with a 30-day free trial of Prime Video. Once that ends, if you decide you want to keep it, subscriptions start at $9 per month, or you can get it as part of an Amazon Prime membership like Tara and I do. Either way, you’ll have access to the movie as soon as it drops.

What is ‘Masterplan’ about?

“Masterplan” follows a legendary thief (Stanley Tucci) who decides to pull off kind of a tough heist: stealing the Mona Lisa. Obviously, he’s going to need some help, so he recruits Chiara (Simona Tabasco), an Italian cybercrime expert, and Jay (Victor Belmondo), a French explosives specialist. Pretty good team, right? Except he’s left out one important detail… Chiara and Jay are actually long-lost siblings, and he’s their father! Can this dysfunctional family actually pull off the heist of the century? I’m extremely excited to find out.

Directed by Thomas Vincent (“Reacher”), the action-comedy takes audiences across France and Italy as this unlikely trio attempts to navigate elaborate security systems, dangerous obstacles, and the considerably more complicated business of getting to know their own family. With Tucci leading the way, “Masterplan” promises a combination of clever heist-movie twists, family dysfunction and plenty of opportunities for things to go spectacularly wrong. After all, stealing the world’s most famous painting is probably difficult enough without having to work through decades of unresolved family issues at the same time.
