Tatiana Maslany’s new dark comedic thriller is coming to Apple TV

Tatiana Maslany’s new dark comedic thriller is coming to Apple TV

Jake Johnson joins Maslany in a twisty new series about blackmail, murder, and youth soccer.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.
"Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed" premieres on Wednesday, May 20 on Apple TV.

Dark comedy thrillers are having a moment; they just usually live over on HBO Max (looking at you, “DTF St. Louis”). But now, Apple TV is getting into the mix with “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed.” Tatiana Maslany plays a newly divorced mom who thinks she may have witnessed a crime, and instead of walking away, she goes digging while also trying to survive a custody battle and hold her life together. Add Jake Johnson, Murray Bartlett, and Brandon Flynn to the mix, and yeah, this feels like one of those shows that could get very weird very fast. Here’s everything you need to know about “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed” before it drops in May.

Everything you need to know about ‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed’

When will episodes of ‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed’ come on Apple TV?

“Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed” premieres Wednesday, May 20, on Apple TV, with the first two episodes dropping right away. After that, new episodes roll out weekly every Wednesday through July 15, wrapping up a 10-episode season.

Can you watch episodes of ‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed’ for free?

Sort of. Apple TV offers a seven-day free trial for new users, so if you time it right, you could check out the premiere without paying. After that, you’ll need a subscription. The service costs $13 per month and keeps things simple with just one main plan. You could always wait until the entire show has dropped before signing up, so you could binge the whole thing for free, but then you risk spoilers, which are really annoying. Honestly, Tara and I love Apple TV and it’s one subscription we’re not getting rid of.

Apple TV

Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

…

In October 2025, Apple TV agreed to a deal with Formula 1 to exclusively broadcast all Formula 1 races starting with the 2026 season.

Apple TV also features coverage of all regular-season matches for Major League Soccer (MLS) at no additional cost.

On August 28th, 2026, the price of Apple TV was increased from $12.99 per month to $14.99 per month, the second increase in as many years.

The service is available worldwide through the Apple TV app, which is built into Apple devices and supported on most smart TVs, streaming players like Roku and Fire TV, game consoles, and web browsers. Subscribers can watch on demand, download episodes and movies for offline viewing, and stream in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, where available. Apple TV also offers family sharing, allowing up to six people to use one subscription at no extra cost.

With a competitive monthly price and bundles available through Apple One — which combines Apple TV with Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud storage, and more — the service continues to grow as a key part of Apple’s ecosystem. Apple TV delivers one of the strongest collections of exclusive content in the streaming space for viewers seeking prestige originals, cinematic storytelling, and seamless access across devices.

What is ‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed’ about?

“Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed” follows Paula, a newly divorced mom who’s already barely holding it together when she becomes convinced she witnessed a crime. Instead of minding her own business, she starts digging, which sends her straight into a mess involving blackmail, murder, youth soccer, and what sounds like a much bigger conspiracy sitting underneath all of it. At the same time, she’s dealing with a custody battle and a full identity crisis, so this is clearly not a low-stress season of life for her.

What makes the premise fun is that it sounds like the show is juggling two things at once. On one level, it’s a thriller about a woman pulling at a thread that could unravel something huge. On another, it’s about someone whose personal life is already in pieces, trying to figure out who she even is now. It’s very “The Flight Attendant” vibes (I’m assuming minus the alcohol addiction).

Who stars in ‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed’?

Tatiana Maslany leads the series as Paula, and that alone is enough to make me curious. She obviously showed her range in “Orphan Black” as one of those actors who can do intensity, panic, vulnerability, and deadpan comedy all at once, which feels pretty perfect for a show like this. Jake Johnson stars alongside her, and he’s always good at bringing this laid-back but slightly frazzled energy that makes everything feel more human and a little more unpredictable.

The supporting cast is stacked, too. Brandon Flynn and Murray Bartlett are both in the ensemble, along with Jessy Hodges, Jon Michael Hill, Charlie Hall, Kiarra Hamagami Goldberg, Nola Wallace, and Dolly De Leon.
