About ‘Lady in the Lake’

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Laura Lipmann, “Lady in the Lake” tells the story of a young girl’s disappearance and how it grips Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966. From this horrific crime, the lives of two very different women are set on a collision course that neither could have ever anticipated.

Maddie Schwartz (Portman) is a Jewish housewife and mother who is looking to finally embrace the life and freedom that she never had the opportunity to enjoy. After leaving her husband, she becomes determined to become an investigative journalist. Cleo Johnson (Ingram) is a single mother who is struggling to provide for her family while also seeking to enjoy life and find love, but ultimately goes missing after becoming mixed up in the underbelly of Black Baltimore’s political and nightlife landscapes.

While their journeys toward happiness mirror each other at first, when Maddie finds Cleo’s dead body in a lake, she becomes obsessed with figuring out what happened to her, even if it puts everyone close to her, and Cleo, in danger.

The groundbreaking series comes from visionary director Alma Har’el, “Lady in the Lake” and tells a tragic and harrowing story about the price women are forced to pay in order to follow their dreams.

What Else Can You Watch on Apple TV+ After ‘Lady in the Lake’?

Since launching in 2019, Apple TV+ has become one of the premier streaming destinations for A-list stars appearing in prestige television series. Last year, Jennifer Garner led a similar best-seller adaptation in “The Last Thing He Told Me,” which will return for a second season next year based on Laura Dave’s forthcoming sequel novel. Earlier this week, Brie Larson was nominated for an Emmy for leading the series adaptation of Bonnie Garmus’ best-seller “Lessons in Chemistry.” Other shows based on books in the Apple TV+ library include “The Big Door Prize,” “City on Fire,” “The Crowded Room,” and “Silo.” One of Apple TV+’s most popular series, “Slow Horses,” adapts a new installment in Mick Herron’s Slough House series every season.

In addition to all of the series inspired by great works of modern literature, Apple TV+ is also home to some of the best shows on streaming. When it comes to content releases, the tech company’s streaming service has taken a quality-over-quantity approach, and it has resulted in hit series including “Ted Lasso,” “Shrinking,” “For All Mankind,” “The Morning Show,” “Severance,” “Bad Sisters,” “Hijack,” and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.”

Unlike most other major streaming services, Apple TV+ currently does not have an ad-supported subscription option. That means that the only pricing plan available is for the $9.99 ad-free option. Given the track record of successful, star-studded series and the potential for the streamer to add an archive of licensed movies, now if a good time to sign up for Apple TV+, especially if you want to watch Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram in “Lady in the Lake.”
