The newest Paul Thomas Anderson venture is available to stream on HBO Max just in time for the holidays.
Paul Thomas Anderson and Leonardo DiCaprio make a sensational team in “One Battle After Another,” which was one of the few films I made a trip to theaters for in 2025. The movie’s cinematic run is over now, however, and it is debuting on HBO Max on Friday, Dec. 19. DiCaprio stars as Bob, a reclusive ex-revolutionary who is pulled back into his old habits when his daughter disappears. The only way to stream the film with a subscription this weekend is by signing up for HBO Max.

What is ‘One Battle After Another’ about?
Arriving on HBO Max just a couple weeks after The Streamable predicted it would, “One Battle After Another” stars DiCaprio as Bob, a one-time revolutionary who is surviving off-grid with his daughter Willa and trying to keep his head down. But when his greatest nemesis, a man who delights in cruelty and harsh measures, resurfaces, Willa suddenly disappears.
It’s up to Bob to find her, as Willa is drawn into a battle from his past that he thought he had left there. Is he up to the task after all this time away from the fight?
