About ‘Pachinko’
“Pachinko” is told through the eyes of Sunja, the matriarch of a Korean family who begins the story living in Japanese-occupied Busan. She does everything she can for the sake of her family, even in the midst of conflict and even war. Now, following the end of World War II, Sunja has relocated to Osaka, and has to make dangerous decisions to help ensure the survival of her family.
A parallel story follows Solomon, a Korean businessman from Japan who spent most of Season 1 reconnecting with family while trying to earn a promotion. After being told the Japanese business world would never accept him because of his race, Solomon is humbled and forced to start over in Season 2, though he’s as hungry and ambitious as ever.
