Hannah Waddingham plays an assassin whose past catches up with her, dragging Octavia Spencer’s character into the chaos.

‘Ride or Die’ premieres Wednesday, July 15 on Prime Video.

There shouldn’t be secrets between best friends, especially when it comes to one of the friends being an international assassin. However, that is exactly the case in Prime Video’s new action comedy series “Ride or Die. Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham star in this buddy comedy as best friends whose lives explode (literally) when one turns out to be a hired killer, and her line of work gets a little too close to home. The series premieres on the Amazon-owned streamer on Wednesday, July 15, and you can watch with a 30-day free trial to Prime Video.

Can you watch ‘Ride or Die’ for free once it starts streaming?

Possibly. Prime Video offers a 30-day free trial for new users, so if you time it up properly, you could definitely watch without paying anything. However, to do so, you would have to wait until a few episodes in to start your watching journey. If you are excited for the premiere as soon as possible and want to get swept up in the inevitable pink excitement, then your trial will run out before the season finale.

In addition, there is a decent chance that you might have access to Prime Video already, without even knowing it. The streaming service comes as an included benefit with every Amazon Prime membership. So, if you are already getting free shipping from the online retailer, you already have access to Prime Video as well.

If not, you can sign up for a subscription for $9 per month, or ad-free for $14. However, considering that these games will include commercials, regardless of which plan you choose, I would go with the cheaper ad-supported option, which is just $15 per month for the full Amazon Prime experience.

Watch the trailer for ‘Ride or Die’

What is ‘Ride or Die’ about?

“Ride or Die” follows Debbie Claybourne and Judith Burton, two best friends who think they know everything about each other. Then Judith drops one very small detail: she’s secretly an international assassin. Not exactly the kind of thing you casually forget to mention over brunch. The whole thing kicks off when a mysterious figure from Judith’s past comes back into the picture, and a hit goes very, very wrong. Suddenly, Debbie’s normal life is completely blown up, and both women are forced to go on the run together. From there, it becomes a road trip across Europe with cops, trained killers, and dangerous criminals all chasing them down.

That’s the hook that makes this one sound so fun. It’s not just an assassin show. It’s a buddy comedy where one friend is very used to chaos, and the other is trying to process the fact that her best friend kills terrible people for money. Based on the trailer, the comedy comes from that exact contrast: Judith is blunt and weirdly calm about the whole assassin thing, while Deb is reacting like a normal person who has suddenly been dropped into an action movie. That’s a great setup.

Who stars in ‘Ride or Die’?

Octavia Spencer stars as Debbie Claybourne, the best friend who gets pulled into the madness. Hannah Waddingham stars as Judith Burton, Debbie’s longtime friend who turns out to be an international assassin. That pairing alone is the main reason I’m excited. The cast also includes Bill Nighy, Ed Skrein, Sylvia Hoeks, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker, and Jacky Ido.
