About ‘Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War’
“Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War” dives into Teen Mania, founded by Ron Luce in 1986. Teen Mania was the largest youth organization, but it fell apart in 2015. The three-part docuseries dives into the shocking, intense activities that went on behind the scenes of an uplifting youth group. Millions of teens were eager to attend the “Acquire the Fire” concert events and volunteer on mission trips. But everything wasn’t as it seemed.
In the docuseries, former Teen Mania members share their first-hand accounts of the wild events that went down. They discuss what it looked like from the outside and why they wanted to get involved. Once they were a part of the action, they were thrown into intense bootcamps and were subject to manipulation and control. Today, former members compare Teen Mania to a cult, detailing “traumatizing” events and working 15-hour days. Someone else accuses the organization of “exploiting” the children involved. Darker, wilder secrets finally come to light in “Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War.”
The fantastic team behind “Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets” returns to tell a new story. It’s executive produced by Blye Faust and Cori Shepherd. Nicole Newnham and Cori Shepherd directed the series.
Shiny Happy People
A limited docuseries exposing the truth beneath the wholesome Americana surface of reality tv’s favorite mega-family, The Duggars, and the radical organization behind them: The Institute in Basic Life Principles. As details of the family and their scandals unfold, we realize they’re part of an insidious, much larger threat already in motion, with democracy itself in peril.
