One of the best shows on television returns for its fourth season this week. Apple TV+ debuts the latest installment of “Slow Horses” on Wednesday, Sept. 4. The British spy dramedy centers on a motley group of outcast MI5 agents who are shuffled off to a dingy London outpost known as Slough House. Based on the novels by Mick Herron, the series is led by Oscar-winner Gary Oldman as the slovenly and flatulent — but brilliant — Jackson Lamb. You can stream the first episode of “Slow Horses” Season 4 starting at 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday with a 7-Day Free Trial of Apple TV+.

About ‘Slow Horses’ Season 4
Through the first three seasons of “Slow Horses,” we have seen Jackson Lamb, River Cartwright (played by Emmy-nominee Jack Lowden), and the rest of Team Slough House bumble their way through some of the biggest espionage plots in Great Britain. As Season 4 approaches, Apple TV+ is being very tight-lipped about the plot. However, we do know that it will be based on Herron’s novel “Spook Street.”
In that book, River Cartwright’s grandfather (played by Jonathan Pryce) who was once one of the most important spies in MI5 begins to forget things. While that is common for people as they age, what happens when an old spy who knows too many secrets can’t remember that they are supposed to be secret? When a bomb is detonated in the middle of a busy shopping center in London, killing dozens of innocent people, the slow horses must race to figure out who is behind this act of terrorism before it escalates even further.
In addition to 2024 Emmy nominees Oldman, Lowden, and Pryce, the “Slow Horses” cast includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, and Kadiff Kirwan. Joining the ensemble this season will be Hugo Weaving, Joanna Scanlan, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, and James Callis.
