What is ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’ about?

Set over the course of a single week, “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen” follows Rachel and Nicky in the days leading up to their wedding. And before you ask, yes, something very bad is going to happen. That’s not a spoiler. It’s literally the title. The tone leans more toward slow-building dread than jump scares, landing somewhere between “Carrie” and “Rosemary’s Baby.” There’s paranoia, there’s tension, and there’s that creeping feeling that maybe you’re about to marry the wrong person.

At its core, though, this isn’t just horror for horror’s sake. Creator Haley Z. Boston has said the series digs into the fear of commitment and the anxiety around choosing your soulmate. That idea that everyone at a wedding says they “never had a doubt,” and you’re sitting there thinking… really? Not once? The show plays in that uncomfortable space between love and uncertainty, layering in some humor even while the dread slowly builds. It sounds unsettling but also delicious. And I won’t lie, that trailer freaked me out pretty good…

Who stars in ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’?

Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco lead the series as Rachel and Nicky, the couple at the center of the, er, whatever bad thing is going to happen. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Ted Levine round out the cast, along with Gus Birney, Jeff Wilbusch, Karla Crome, Sawyer Fraser, and Zlatko Burić. It’s a tight cast for a limited series, which usually means every character matters.

Who is making ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’?

The series is created and showrun by Haley Z. Boston, who previously wrote for “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities” and “Brand New Cherry Flavor.” So yeah, horror is kind of her lane. The Duffer Brothers executive produce through Upside Down Productions, alongside Hilary Leavitt and Andrea Sperling, which immediately gives this some prestige genre weight. Weronika Tofilska, who directed episodes of “Baby Reindeer,” directs four episodes and also executive produces. A

xelle Carolyn and Lisa Brühlmann join as directors, bringing serious thriller cred with them, with Carolyn having directed episodes of “The Haunting of Bly Manor” and “American Horror Story,” and Brühlmann having directed episodes of “Killing Eve” and “Servant.”
