Megan Park’s ‘Sterling Point’ gets a Prime Video premiere
Ella Rubin leads the YA series about identity, first love, and the family history you never saw coming.
There are a few reasons I’m excited for “Sterling Point.” First, Tara and I saw Megan Park’s “My Old Ass” at an outdoor screening at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and we both really loved it. It was funny, emotional, and lovelier than I expected it to be. So if Park is bringing that same coming-of-age sensitivity to a YA series about family secrets, romance, and a mysterious Canadian island, I’m in. Here’s everything you need to know before “Sterling Point” hits streaming.
Everything you need to know about ‘Sterling Point’
When does ‘Sterling Point’ come out?
“Sterling Point” premieres Wednesday, Aug. 5 on Prime Video. Even better, all eight episodes will drop at once, so this is very much a weekend-binge situation.
Can you watch ‘Sterling Point’ for free once it starts streaming?
Probably. Prime Video still offers a 30-day free trial for new users, so if that’s still around when “Sterling Point” arrives, there’s a good chance you can watch the whole season without paying. Since all eight episodes are dropping at once, you won’t even have to wait week to week. After that, Prime Video costs $9 per month with ads or $14 per month if you want to go ad-free. Or, you can do what Tara and I do and have it included for free with an Amazon Prime subscription.

What is ‘Sterling Point’ about?
“Sterling Point” follows Annie Jacobson, a 17-year-old New Yorker whose life gets flipped around when she finds out she’s inherited her mysterious grandfather’s island in Canada. Until that moment, Annie had been raised in New York City with her twin brother and her loving adoptive father. So yeah, going from Manhattan to a remote island full of unanswered family questions is a pretty big shift.
That’s the part of the setup I like. It’s not just “girl moves somewhere new and falls in love,” though there definitely seems to be romance in the mix. It’s also about identity, family history, and what happens when you suddenly inherit a place that comes with secrets attached. Annie lands in this small community, starts forming new friendships, gets pulled toward new relationships, and slowly begins uncovering the parts of her family story she never knew. It sounds like the kind of YA drama that can be cozy, messy, romantic, and mysterious all at once.
Who stars in ‘Sterling Point’?
Ella Rubin leads the series as Annie Jacobson, which is a great bit of casting if you’ve seen her pop up in projects like “The Idea of You” and “Anora.” Keen Ruffalo plays Annie’s twin brother, while Jay Duplass plays her adoptive father. That family trio is the emotional spine of the setup, especially once Annie’s inheritance starts pulling her into a much bigger story.
The cast also includes Amélie Elisabeth Hoeferle, Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Bo Bragason, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Nikko Angelo Hinayo, Mabel Strachan, Elle-Maija Tailfeathers, and Missi Pyle. That’s a pretty interesting mix. You’ve got younger actors who should help build out the friendship and romance side of the story, plus veteran performers like Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jay Duplass, and Missi Pyle, who can bring some weight and weirdness to the adult side of the island mystery.
Who is making ‘Sterling Point’?
This is the part that makes “Sterling Point” especially interesting. The series is created by Megan Park, who also serves as director, co-showrunner, and executive producer. Park wrote and directed “My Old Ass,” and that’s honestly a big reason this show is on my radar. She has a real feel for young characters who are funny, confused, emotional, and trying to figure out who they are without the whole thing feeling fake.
