Valerie Cherish is back in the final season of ‘The Comeback’
The HBO comedy returns over 20 years later with Lisa Kudrow back as Valerie.
It’s been a long time coming, but one of my favorite TV characters of all time, Valerie Cherish, is officially back. The third and final season of “The Comeback” premieres Sunday, March 22 on HBO and HBO Max, and somehow it’s been over 20 years since the show premiered. Lisa Kudrow steps back into one of the most painfully funny characters ever created, and if you’ve missed Valerie’s chaotic, desperate, completely unaware energy… you’re in for a great time. This is officially the final chapter, too, so enjoy every minute of it. Here’s how to watch “The Comeback” Season 3.

Everything you need to know about ‘The Comeback’ Season 3
When will episodes of ‘The Comeback’ Season 3 come on HBO Max?
“The Comeback” Season 3 premieres Sunday, March 22 at 10:30 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max at the same time. After that, new episodes drop weekly every Sunday, leading up to the series finale on Sunday, May 10.
Why do we recommend HBO Max for watching ‘The Comeback’ Season 3?
Because it’s the easiest way to watch the show on your own schedule. “The Comeback” airs on HBO, but HBO Max is where you can stream every new episode as it drops, plus revisit the earlier seasons without jumping through hoops.
HBO Max currently has three plans. The Basic plan with ads is $11 per month, the Standard ad-free plan is $19 per month, and the Premium plan is $23 per month with 4K streaming and more devices. If you’re just here for Valerie’s final run, this is a pretty easy one-month signup situation.
Can you watch episodes of ‘The Comeback’ Season 3 for free?
Nope. HBO Max doesn’t offer a standard free trial right now, so you’ll need a paid subscription to watch. The upside is the season runs over a pretty tight window, so you can sign up, follow along weekly, and cancel once the finale hits if you’re not sticking around.

Watch the trailer for ‘The Comeback’ Season 3
What is ‘The Comeback’ Season 3 about?
“The Comeback” picks back up with Valerie Cherish, a TV actress who has spent her entire career chasing relevance, approval, and honestly… any job that will have her. Season 3 jumps ahead 20 years after the show’s debut, with Valerie once again trying to navigate Hollywood, her image, and whatever version of fame still exists for her now.
Based on the trailer, it looks like she’s landed as a series regular and executive producer on a show called “How’s that?!” only to learn it’s being written by AI. Of course, Valerie is still desperate to be liked, still convinced she’s crushing it, and still completely unaware of how things actually come across. And with this being the final season, expect things to get a little more reflective… even if Valerie herself never quite gets there.
How to watch ‘The Comeback’ Seasons 1 and 2
If you haven’t watched “The Comeback” in a while… or ever… now’s the time to fix that. Both Season 1 and Season 2 are streaming on HBO Max right now, and honestly, it’s a super quick catch-up. The show only has a handful of episodes across its first two seasons, so you can get through everything before Season 3 really gets going.
And it’s worth it. A lot of what makes Valerie funny hits harder when you’ve seen where she started. Her awkward attempts at fame, the reality show chaos, all the secondhand embarrassment… it all builds. Plus, going straight from the earlier seasons into this final chapter just makes the whole thing land better.
