What is ‘The Last Sunrise’ about?

“The Last Sunrise” follows Ry (Maia Reficco), a college student with a chronic illness who goes to Mallorca for the summer with her mom, played by Eva Longoria. Which, okay, Mallorca. That part I can handle. Then she meets Julián (Fernando Lindez), starts falling for him, and basically begins letting herself have this summer instead of thinking about her illness every second. Romance, beaches, Spain. Great. This is all sounding very nice so far.

But I’m already nervous about where this is going. Ry’s condition is getting worse, there are family secrets hanging around, and I am an absolute softie with this stuff. “Voicemails for Isabelle” broke my heart, and I’m still not sure I’ve emotionally recovered from that one, so a romance about a sick young woman trying to live like it’s the last summer of her life? Come on. I don’t know if I’m ready for this. Carlson Young directs from a screenplay by Anna Klassen, and I’m hoping all the Mallorca sunshine can somehow protect me from whatever Anna Todd has planned here. I have doubts.
