The first Star Wars film since 2019, “The Mandalorian and Grogu” follows the titular bounty hunter and his young green ward as they work to rid the galaxy of evil. The Empire has fallen, but Imperial warlords have spread throughout the galaxy. The New Republic is doing everything it can to battle these villains, but they’ll never turn down the help of a legendary Mandalorian.
The initial response to the film was mixed, with many fans and critics feeling that it felt less like a story built for the big screen, and more of a series of serial adventures tied together with a loose narrative. Its critical score on Rotten Tomatoes sits at 60%, but its audience score from viewers is at 86%. The film’s score on Metacritic currently stands at 52, indicating “Mixed or Average” reviews.

Initially, The Streamable's David Satin predicted a streaming premiere date of Friday, Sept. 18, so not a terrible prediction on his part. However, a lackluster box office performance of $177.7 million domestically and $345.8 million internationally likely hastened its streaming premiere.
However, the disappointing result clearly hasn’t deterred Disney from embracing the characters. Alongside the film’s premiere, Star Wars will also launch the “STAR WARS: The Mandalorian and Grogu” Official Podcast at 9 p.m. ET on Sept. 2.
The two-episode series takes fans behind the scenes of the film as it was shot on the movie’s Adelphi Base Bar set. Appearing in the video-podcast will be “The Mandalorian and Grogu” director, co-writer, and producer Jon Favreau; Lucasfilm president and the movie’s co-writer Dave Filoni; Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson; the stars of the film, Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver; and Grogu will also be on hand to up the cuteness quotient.

And finally, on Wednesday, Sept. 2, Disney+ will debut an all-new animated special, “LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian.” This will be a look at the life and adventures of Din Djarin as we have never seen before. Not only will it be animated in the beloved LEGO style, but it will also be a comedic retelling of the first three seasons of the live-action series. Fans will be able to revisit their favorite stories from the series in a completely fresh and family-friendly way.
The special’s voice cast will feature some of the live-action series’ most popular actors with David Acord as Grogu and MA-13; Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto; Bill Burr as Migs Mayfield; Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze; Emily Swallow as the Armorer; Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon; Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand; Nick Nolte as Kuiil; Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano; Taika Waititi as IG-11 and IG-12; Temeura Morrison as Boba Fett; Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth; Carl Lumbly as Greef Karga; and more. For this version, Gavin Hammon steps in as the voice of The Mandalorian.
