Love ‘Daisy Jones’? ‘The Runarounds’ brings the band drama to Gen Z
Real-life musicians star in Prime Video’s new coming-of-age music series.
If you loved “Daisy Jones & The Six,” Prime Video’s got a new music-driven drama that hits a little closer to high school. “The Runarounds” is a brand-new series from the creators of “Outer Banks,” and it follows a group of grads chasing the dream of starting a rock band before real life kicks in. It’s got music, romance, and just enough chaos to feel like those weird, magical months after graduation when anything feels possible. All eight episodes drop Monday, Sept. 1, and a few of the original songs are already out. Here’s everything you need to know about “The Runarounds.”
Everything you need to know about ‘The Runarounds’:
When does ‘The Runarounds’ come on Prime Video?
“The Runarounds” drops all eight episodes on Monday, Sept. 1, exclusively on Prime Video. So no waiting week to week — you can binge the whole season in one go. If you’re already getting into the soundtrack, you won’t have to wait long to see the story behind the songs.
Can you watch ‘The Runarounds’ for free?
Yes! Prime Video offers a 30-day free trial for new users, which gives you plenty of time to stream all eight episodes of “The Runarounds” without paying a cent. After the trial, plans start at $9 per month for the ad-supported tier, or $12 per month if you want to go ad-free. Both plans let you stream on up to three devices and include offline downloads.
Why do we recommend Prime Video for watching ‘The Runarounds’?
Because it’s the only place you can watch it. “The Runarounds” is a Prime Video exclusive, so if you’re planning to binge the full season, this is where it’s streaming. Plans start at $9 per month with ads, or you can go ad-free for $12, or you can get it bundled with a paid subscription to Amazon Prime.

What is ‘The Runarounds’ about?
We already know the setup, and it’s a good one: “The Runarounds” follows a group of teens fresh out of high school in Wilmington, North Carolina, who decide to start a band the summer before real life kicks in. They’ve got talent, they’ve got big dreams, and they’ve got nothing to lose. Over eight episodes, we’ll watch them chase a shot at stardom while navigating messy friendships, new love, family drama, and all the big feelings that come with stepping into adulthood. It’s music-driven, character-focused, and very much about that wild in-between time when everything feels possible… and also terrifying.
There’s a real-life twist, too: the guys in the band are played by actual musicians (including William Lipton and Axel Ellis), and the original songs they perform in the show are already out. That gives the series a more grounded, lived-in vibe because it’s not just actors pretending to be a band, it is a band. Think of it as part coming-of-age drama, part behind-the-scenes music story, with a legit soundtrack worth listening to on its own merit. If “Daisy Jones & The Six” was about looking back at the chaos of fame, “The Runarounds” is about throwing yourself headfirst into it for the first time.
Who stars in ‘The Runarounds’?
Here’s what makes “The Runarounds” stand out: the band at the center of the show isn’t just acting like a band, they are a band. The five core cast members — William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher — are real musicians who play their own instruments, write their own songs, and actually perform together. That means the music in the show isn’t just a soundtrack, but woven into the story.
Rounding out the cast are Lilah Pate, Maximo Salas, Kelley Pereira, Marley Aliah, Mark Wystrach, Brooklyn Decker, Hayes MacArthur, and Shea Pritchard. But make no mistake, this show is all about the band, and because they’re playing fictional versions of themselves, it blurs the line between what’s scripted and what’s real. If you’ve ever wanted a front-row seat to what it’s like starting a band with your best friends and chasing a dream, these guys are living it onscreen and off.
The Runarounds
Follow a tight-knit group of young adults from all walks of life who come together to form a rock band the summer after graduating from high school. Set against the backdrop of Wilmington, North Carolina, The Runarounds must choose between succumbing to the pressures of real life or risking everything to become the greatest band of all time.
Who are the creators behind ‘The Runarounds’?
“The Runarounds” comes from Jonas Pate, who created the show and co-wrote the teleplay with David Wilcox. Pate also helped launch “Outer Banks,” and he’s bringing that same mix of high energy, teen emotion, and big dreams to this music-driven series. Alongside him, “Outer Banks” co-creators Josh Pate and Shannon Burke are also on board as executive producers.
Is ‘The Runarounds’ based on a true story?
Not exactly, but there’s a real-life layer that gives it some extra punch. “The Runarounds” isn’t based on a specific true story, but the band at the heart of the show is made up of real musicians — William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher — who actually play together outside the show. So while the story itself is fictional, the music is real, the performances are real, and the band chemistry you see on screen is the real deal.
Will there be a Season 2 of ‘The Runarounds’?
Nothing’s been confirmed yet. “The Runarounds” is launching as a single-season series with eight episodes, and Prime Video hasn’t said whether there’s more coming. It could easily stand alone as a one-summer story, but it connects with audiences (and the music keeps building momentum), so there’s definitely room to keep going. Real-life bands evolve, so the show could too. But for now, no word on a Season 2.
