Jamie Dornan plays twins in Netflix’s twisty new thriller coming in 2026
The English adaptation of “Twin” turns a deadly accident into a weeklong identity swap.
Twin stories are always fun. Double identities, hidden pasts, always wondering which twin is which… it’s the stuff of great thrillers. Now Netflix is diving into that territory with the English adaptation of the Norwegian series “Twin,” retitled “The Undertow.” Add Jamie Dornan playing identical twins into the mix, and yeah, this already feels like one of those twisty, fun crime dramas. If you remember him from “Fifty Shades of Grey,” you know he can handle, er, complicated. Here’s everything you need to know before “The Undertow” lands on Netflix.
Everything you need to know about ‘The Undertow’
When does ‘The Undertow’ come out?
There’s no specific date yet, but it’s expected sometime in 2026. The series was once thought to be part of Netflix’s 2025 UK slate, but after quietly disappearing from that list, it’s now confirmed for 2026 instead. Filming took place in 2024 across the Scottish Highlands, Sutherland, and the Isle of Mull, so production has been wrapped for a while.
Can you watch ‘The Undertow’ for free once it starts streaming?
Probably not. Netflix doesn’t offer a free trial anymore, so you’ll need a subscription when “The Undertow” drops. Plans currently start at $8 per month with ads, $18 per month ad-free, or $25 per month for the Premium tier. Once the show goes live, it should be available right away, no matter which plan you’re on, and if Netflix sticks to form, it’ll likely be a full binge drop.
Netflix
Netflix is a leading subscription-based video streaming service that offers on-demand access to an extensive library of over 3,000 movies, 2,000+ TV shows, and a growing collection of acclaimed Netflix originals. Renowned for producing groundbreaking content, Netflix has become a cultural powerhouse with hit originals like “Stranger Things,” “Wednesday,” “Squid Game,” “The Crown,” “Tiger King,” “Bridgerton,” “The Witcher,” and “Black Mirror.”
What is ‘The Undertow’ about?
“The Undertow” is about secrets, bad decisions, and one truly unhinged identity swap. Nicola is stuck in a loveless marriage to Adam, played by Jamie Dornan. Then Adam’s long-estranged identical twin brother Lee, also played by Dornan, crashes back into her life. And here’s the twist: Nicola has a romantic past with Lee.
When a split-second accident leaves Adam dead, Nicola makes a choice that changes everything. She and Lee decide to fake which twin actually died. Lee assumes Adam’s identity, hoping the police investigation will conclude that the carefree brother is the one who’s gone. Over the course of a single week, the two try to hold their story together while their feelings for each other resurface. It’s messy, it’s tense, and it’s very much unhinged, and that’s what I love about it.
Who stars in ‘The Undertow’?
Jamie Dornan leads the series as both Adam and Lee, which is a lot to carry, but he’s done complicated before. Mackenzie Davis plays Nicola, the woman caught between the twins and the center of the lie. Iain de Caestecker joins the cast as Marty Munro, and Gary Lewis also stars as Keith. The broader ensemble rounds out what looks like a very Scottish, very moody crime lineup, which honestly fits the whole noir vibe.
How can you stream the original series?

If you’re curious how this whole twisted twin saga started, you can stream the original “Twin” on MHz Choice through Prime Video. That’s where the Norwegian version lives, and it’s a great way to see how the story plays out in its original form before Netflix’s English adaptation puts its own spin on it.
