The Watcher’ Season 2 brings Naomi Watts back to Netflix
The Watcher’ Season 2 brings Naomi Watts back to Netflix
Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale return as the Brannocks four years after Season 1.
As the wait between TV seasons gets longer, four years doesn’t seem all that crazy anymore. It’s funny to think back to what the world was like when the first season of “The Watcher” dropped on Netflix back in 2022. Argentina won the World Cup, ChatGPT was just launching, and we were all slowly coming out of the COVID daze. And if you remember this show and have been waiting for Season 2 news, you’re in luck! It’s happening: Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale are back, and things will pick up after the events of Season 1. Here’s everything you need to know about the second season of “The Watcher.”
Everything you need to know about ‘The Watcher’ Season 2
When does ‘The Watcher’ Season 2 come out?
There’s no exact date yet for when Season 2 of “The Watcher” will drop, but the show is officially in production. Filming is underway, according to Netflix, in New York, so I would expect a late 2027 release.
Can you watch ‘The Watcher’ Season 2 for free once it starts streaming?
Not right now, no. Netflix doesn’t currently offer a free trial in the U.S., so you can’t watch “The Watcher” Season 2 for free. But Netflix is testing free trials in other countries, so it’s not impossible that by the time the second season drops that free trial has come here. It’s sure to be big news if it does. If that doesn’t happen, you’ll need a subscription to watch “The Watcher.” Plans start at $9 per month with ads (that’s what I have), and the ad-free plan jumps to $20 per month.
Netflix
Netflix is a leading subscription-based video streaming service that offers on-demand access to an extensive library of over 3,000 movies, 2,000+ TV shows, and a growing collection of acclaimed Netflix originals. Renowned for producing groundbreaking content, Netflix has become a cultural powerhouse with hit originals like “Stranger Things,” “Wednesday,” “Squid Game,” “The Crown,” “Tiger King,” “Bridgerton,” “The Witcher,” and “Black Mirror.”
What is ‘The Watcher’ Season 2 about?
Spoiler Alert. There are spoilers below for Season 1 of ‘The Watcher.’
Netflix hasn’t shared much, but what we do know is that “The Watcher” Season 2 will pick up with the Brannocks after Season 1’s very ambiguous ending. For those who forgot what this show is about (who could blame you!), Nora and Dean (Watts and Cannavale) move into their dream home in the wealthy neighborhood of Westfield, New Jersey and start getting terrorizing letters from someone calling themselves “The Watcher.” This person has been watching the house for years and seems to know too much about the Brannocks and their kids. Dean basically becomes obsessed with finding out who “The Watcher” really is… and his obsession eventually tears the family apart.
Netflix hasn’t revealed what brings the family back into the mystery or where the story goes next. And that’s fair considering this is based on a real-life case that’s still unsolved. That means creators Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, and company can pretty much take this wherever they want now, and after four years, they’ve had plenty of time to surprise us!
Who stars in ‘The Watcher’ Season 2?
Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale are both coming back for “The Watcher” Season 2 as Nora and Dean Brannock. Isabel Gravitt also returns as their daughter Ellie, while Margo Martindale is back as the unsettling neighbor Maureen “Mo.” That’s it so far for the confirmed cast, but there’s always an opportunity for new neighbors to move in and expand the cast from Season 1. Ian Brennan is back as showrunner, with Ryan Murphy and Brennan both executive producing.
