Apple TV is heading back to ‘Widow’s Bay’ for Season 2
The horror-comedy mystery has already been renewed, even before its Season 1 finale hits Apple TV.
Apple TV has another hit on its hands with “Widow’s Bay,” and honestly, this one really feels like its own weird little thing. I love how it walks that tricky line between real, genuine scares and quirky small-town comedy without tipping too far in either direction. One minute, I was laughing at how strange everyone on this island is, and the next, I’m fully creeped out because the old stories might actually be true. The mystery at the center is what pulls the whole thing through, and now Apple TV is officially bringing it back for Season 2. Here’s everything you need to know about “Widow’s Bay” Season 2.
Everything you need to know about ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 2
When does ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 2 come out?
There’s no premiere date yet for “Widow’s Bay” Season 2. Apple TV announced the renewal on Thursday, June 11, just a few days before the Season 1 finale premieres on Wednesday, June 17, so it’ll probably be a little while before we know when the new season will arrive.
Still, the timing says a lot. Apple TV clearly likes what it has here, and it makes sense. “Widow’s Bay” has that rare mix of horror, comedy, mystery, and weird town energy that makes you want to keep watching just to see what could possibly happen next. For now, the main thing to know is that the Season 1 finale hits Apple TV on Wednesday, June 17. Once that episode drops, we should have a much better idea of where the story might be heading next.
But Apple does tend to be a little more consistent with its release schedules than other streamers. For example, “Slow Horses” premieres the trailer for its next season at the conclusion of its previous season finale, and each new season premieres in September. So, hopefully, the second season of the show will premiere in late spring 2027, in line with Season 1’s 2026 release.
Can you watch ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 2 for free once it starts streaming?
Yep, you can, with a seven-day free trial of Apple TV. So, assuming that’s still active when Season 2 premieres, you could watch the first episode without paying. Or, if you’re patient, you could wait until later in the season and use that trial to binge more of it at once. After the trial, Apple TV costs $13 per month, and it’s completely ad-free. For my money, it’s one of the easiest streamers to justify because the library isn’t huge, but the hit rate is very, very high.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
What will ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 2 be about?
Apple TV hasn’t revealed the official plot for “Widow’s Bay” Season 2 yet, and since the Season 1 finale hasn’t aired, it’s probably better not to guess too much. But based on where the show has been headed, it feels safe to expect more of the island’s creepy history, more cursed secrets, and more trouble for Mayor Tom Loftis.
That’s really the fun of the show. Tom is trying to turn Widow’s Bay into a tourist destination and build a better future for his son, but he’s also stuck dealing with a town where the locals believe the island is cursed. The problem, of course, is that they seem to be right. After years of calm, the old stories start happening again, and the show keeps finding new ways to make that both scary and funny.
The first season centers on Tom trying to revive a struggling island community with no Wi-Fi, spotty cell service, and a whole lot of superstition. He wants the town to respect him, but most people see him as soft, cowardly, and completely unprepared for what’s really happening around him. That’s such a good engine for the series because he’s not some fearless horror hero. He’s a guy trying to do the right thing in a place that might be completely doomed.
Who stars in ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 2?
Assuming the main characters make it through the Season 1 finale, Matthew Rhys is expected to return as Mayor Tom Loftis in “Widow’s Bay” Season 2. Rhys also serves as an executive producer on the series. The show also stars Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey. The supporting cast includes K Callan and Emmy-winning Jeff Hiller.
Who is making ‘Widow’s Bay’?
“Widow’s Bay” comes from creator, showrunner, and executive producer Katie Dippold. This is especially cool for me because I’ve been watching her at the UCB comedy club in Los Angeles for years, doing improv, and it’s awesome to see her talent explode like this. Hiro Murai executive produces through his Chum Films banner alongside Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin, and Matthew Rhys. Murai directed five episodes in the first season, with Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung also directing episodes. The series hails from Apple Studios, and Apple TV has also signed Dippold to a new multiyear overall deal.
How can you watch ‘Widow’s Bay’ before Season 2?
You can watch “Widow’s Bay” on seven-day free trial of Apple TV. The Season 1 finale premieres Wednesday, June 17, so if you haven’t started yet, now’s a great time to catch up before the story wraps its first run.
