About “Challengers”
The sports romance drama “Challengers” takes place over a 13-year period and stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy-turned-coach “who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Both married to and coaching Art Donaldson (Faist), a champion player on a losing streak, both seek a path to his redemption, especially as they learn he must face off against the washed-up Patrick (O’Connor), his former best friend and doubles partner, and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide, the men’s rivalry continues on (and off) the court, and Tashi must ask herself what she’s willing to do to win.
The film, which had its world premiere in Sydney on March 26, premiered in theaters in the United States on April 26, receiving critical acclaim and brought in over $94 million at the worldwide box office.
Justin Kuritzkes wrote the screenplay in his feature debut. He and Guadagnino also collaborated on the much-buzzed-about “Queer” from A24, starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey.
