Lose ABC, ESPN in DIRECTV-Disney Dispute? Get First Month of Sling for 50%
You can also prepay for four months and get the Sling Season Pass for just $199.
On Sunday, Sept. 1, the carriage agreement between DIRECTV and Disney officially expired without a new deal in place, so channels like ABC, Disney Channel, ESPN, ESPN2, Freeform, National Geographic, and more were pulled off of DIRECTV’s satellite and streaming platforms. The timing is neither ideal, nor coincidental. With the college football season just underway, and the NFL kicking off on Thursday, Disney knows that DIRECTV can ill-afford not to be without the largest sports networks at the start of football season.
Last season, Disney had a similar situation with Charter cable that resulted in subscribers missing some college games, but the dispute was resolved at the 11th hour just in time for the inaugural “Monday Night Football” broadcast of the season.
If you are a DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM, or DIRECTV Via Internet subscriber and you don’t want to risk being unable to watch the Florida State and Boston College game on Monday, Sept. 2 or the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers kick off the “MNF” season on Sept. 9, Sling TV has a pair of deals that just might be perfect for you, depending on what you ar looking for.
Currently, Sling is offering new customers 50% off their first month of service, which means that you can get ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN3 which simulcasts all games from ABC on the Sling Orange base plan for just $20. You could also flesh out your channel lineup by adding the Sling Blue package as well for just $27.50 for the first month. After the first month, each base plan costs $40 monthly and the Orange and Blue combo runs $55.
The streamer also have customizable bundles that feature the base plans and the Sports Extra package so that you can get the best mix of channels for your needs. If you are looking for a temporary fix to your DIRECTV blackout issue, or you are open to trying out a new service, this is the least expensive way to guarantee that you see both tonight’s college football game and next Monday’s NFL matchup.

If you are looking for a more long-term solution to any football-watching problems, then Sling also has an option that might be right up your alley. The Sling Season Pass comes with the Orange and Blue plans and the Sports Extra add-on plan, meaning that you will get access to ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, ACC Network, SEC Network, Big Ten Network, NFL Network, NFL Redzone, ESPNU, TBS, TNT, plus Fox, NBC and ABC in many major markets. And remember, all sporting events that air on ABC are simulcast on ESPN3, so even if you don’t live in one of the markets where Sling carries ABC, you won’t miss a second of the football action.
The Season Pass deal will cost you just $199 for four months when you prepay for the football season. That is $92 off of Sling’s already industry-low prices. On every other live TV streaming service that carries these channels, $199 won’t even get you three months of their base service, let alone their sports add-on package.
