Max launches on Roku Channel allowing streamers to consolidate subscriptions
Roku device owners can now add a Max subscription to their unified streaming bill by subscribing through The Roku Channel.
If you’re a Roku device owner — and there are tens of millions in the United States alone — you likely already know you can watch the Max app on your streaming player without much trouble. But the ability to subscribe to Max through Roku hasn’t been available until now. Roku and Max have announced that viewers can now sign up for one of two Max plans through The Roku Channel.
Key Details:
- The $10 ad-supported plan and the $17 ad-free plan of Max are now available on The Roku Channel.
- Max joins more than 50 other streaming subscriptions available through Roku.
- Signing up through Roku will allow viewers to keep their streaming bills all in one place.
By allowing viewers to sign up for Max through The Roku Channel, Roku is unlocking thousands of prestige TV shows, blockbuster movies, popular selections from cable channels, and streaming originals from HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery. Titles on Max include the new series “The Penguin,” older favorites like “Friends and “The Big Bang Theory,” and much more with a Max subscription.
Viewers can sign up for one of two Max plans on the service: its ad-supported tier for $10 per month, or the ad-free version of the service for $17 per month. As things stand, it does not appear that Max’s Ultimate Ad-Free plan for $21 per month can be subscribed to through Roku.
The availability of the ad-supported plan at launch gives customers more choices, and it’s not always a sure thing when a new subscription launches on Roku. Disney+ could not sell its ad-supported plan on Roku for several months after its launch, likely because the two sides could not agree on how to split ad revenues generated by the plan.
Roku now offers more than 55 subscription options for popular streaming services, which lets viewers enjoy more of the content they want through a single interface. It’s easy to sign up for and manage subscriptions on Roku, and going this route gives customers a unified bill with all their video entertainment on it instead of multiple subscriptions to keep track of each month.
Viewers can also sign up for Max directly through its website or through the Prime Video subscriptions section.
