Netflix greenlights new ‘Clue’ reality show
The popular board game is turning into an unscripted competition series on the world’s largest streamer.
It’s been 40 years since the “Clue” movie captured the imagination of audiences. To this day, many point to “Clue” as the perfect film adaptation of any board game, but Netflix has its hands on the property now. But as announced by the streamer on Tuesday, Netflix isn’t going for another scripted adaptation of “Clue” — instead, the streamer will turn the beloved board game into a competition reality series!
Key Details:
- No date yet: The “Clue” reality show on Netflix doesn’t have a release date as of now.
- Just like the game: The series will adapt many of the gameplay elements and characters of “Clue.”
- Doing it better?: “Clue” could be an attempt to cash in on the success of “The Traitors” on Peacock.
The new “Clue” reality series on Netflix doesn’t have many details available yet, having just received the official green light this week. It’s not clear yet when the show will be available to stream on Netflix, but it seems likely to arrive in early to mid-2026; reality shows don’t typically take as long to produce as scripted titles.
The show will assemble a group of contestants and pit them against each other in physical and mental challenges that will allow them to earn clues. Once they have these, they have to outwit fellow contestants to identify the who, what, and where of the crime, just like in the game.
Those who guess right will add money to the prize pot that all players are competing for. Guessing wrong could lead them to being eliminated. All the while, familiar characters from “Clue” will surround the players, such as Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, and Mr. Green.
“Like so many families and friends over the years, we’ve gathered around the table trying to figure out who did it—making Clue a source of nostalgia that everyone shares,” Netflix VP Jeff Gaspin said. “Thanks to the incredible vision of our partners at Hasbro Entertainment, IPC, and B17, we’re delivering a fresh, imaginative whodunit competition that will invite today’s audiences into that iconic world.”
The announcement of “Clue” could be a response to the success of “The Traitors,” which has been a breakout success for Peacock. Knowing Netflix, the show will probably build a highly successful ad campaign around “Clue” to stoke audience excitement before the show’s eventual release.
