‘KPop Demon Hunters 2’ planned arrival date announced

There was no chance that Netflix was going to let a success like “KPop Demon Hunters” go unfollowed. The streaming service is now ready to give audiences their first hint of when they can expect to see the sequel to the movie that became Netflix’s most successful theatrical release in history earlier this year.

Key Details:

  • Long turnaround: “KPop Demon Hunters 2” will arrive on Netflix in 2029, if all goes according to plan.
  • Box-office smash: The first movie became a huge hit in a limited theatrical run.
  • Streaming hit, too: At over 325 million views, “KPop Demon Hunters” is the most-watched movie in Netflix history.

According to multiple reports, Sony and Netflix are targeting 2029 for the release of “KPop Demon Hunters 2.” Bloomberg was first with the news that the movie would be getting a sequel before 2030, as long as no delays in production occur.

It’s no surprise that “KPop Demon Hunters” is getting a sequel, considering how well the first movie performed. Netflix made the rare move of releasing the film in theaters in August, where it grossed near $20 million. It added almost $6 million to that total during a brief rerelease on Halloween and is the most successful Netflix theatrical bow ever.

The film has been no less successful on streaming. “KPop Demon Hunters” has been streamed over 325 million times on Netflix, making it the most-watched movie in the service’s history. Its soundtrack also became the No. 1 album on Billboard’s Top 200 on Sept. 20.

“KPop Demon Hunters” follows a group of young-adult pop stars called Huntr/x, who also happen to be part of a line of ancient demon hunters. When they aren’t putting together string after string of hits, they find and destroy fiends and monsters, but they meet their greatest challenge ever when a demonic K-pop boy band begins stealing the souls of their fans.
