Netflix adds major Paramount shows in new licensing deal
Despite the intense battle between the two companies over Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount will send a selection of popular titles to Netflix in the deal.
Despite the increasingly bitter fight to purchase Warner Bros. Discovery between Netflix and Paramount Skydance, the companies are apparently willing to put business ahead of personal quarrels. On Tuesday, Paramount and Netflix announced a new licensing deal, with popular Paramount titles now set to stream on the platform.
Key Details:
- Call it a deal: Paramount and Netflix have agreed on a new licensing deal.
- Sheridan shuffle: Taylor Sheridan’s “Mayor of Kingstown” is among the shows headed to Netflix in the deal.
- Still fighting: The deal does not indicate any kind of letup in the pursuit of WBD by Paramount.
Netflix announced the new licensing deal with Paramount as part of its fourth-quarter 2025 earnings report, which was dropped after market close on Tuesday. The deal will see three top Paramount dramas stream on Netflix: “Mayor of Kingstown,” “SEAL Team,” and “Watson.” In all, 20 Paramount titles will join Netflix in 2026.
The inclusion of “Mayor of Kingstown” is a notable one, as the show was created by Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan is responsible for some of the most popular titles on Paramount+ currently, including “Landman,” “1923,” “Tulsa King,” and many more. Making one of his series available on Netflix could help drive a larger number of customers to Paramount+ to stream more Sheridan content.
Netflix pledged to continue expanding its library of licensed titles in 2026 as well, so more such deals could soon be announced. The streamer expanded a licensing agreement with AMC in September, and just last week announced that it was taking its Pay-1 deal with Sony global.
The new pact between Paramount and Netflix should not be taken as a sign that the two are closing in on cooperation when it comes to Warner Bros. Discovery. Both are still locked on their goal of acquiring the company, and although WBD has consistently declared its intentions to move forward with Netflix as its buyer, Paramount has not relented in its hostile takeover attempt. Recently, Netflix converted its bid for WBD to all-cash to try to solidify its support among the company’s investors.
Still, the deal will bring more binge-worthy content to Netflix, and that’s something customers can always rejoice about. Viewers can look forward to their arrival on the streamer soon, and they will almost certainly be available on each Netflix plan.
