Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will debut in theaters in November for a limited run.

It’s been a few years since the release of the last “Knives Out” movie, and Netflix wants to make the premiere of “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” truly memorable. As announced by the streaming service, “Wake Up Dead Man” will get a limited theatrical debut before moving to the Netflix streaming platform a few weeks later.

Key Details:

  • November-December romance: “Wake Up Dead Man” will be released in theaters in November, and on Netflix in December.
  • Recent success: A limited release for the Netflix movie “KPop Demon Hunter” made the movie a box-office hit.
  • Seeing a pattern: The previous “Knives Out” movie also had a limited theatrical run.

Netflix will give “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” a limited theatrical release in November 2025. The film will arrive in select cinemas around the United States on Nov. 26, followed by its Netflix streaming release date on Dec. 12, a little more than two weeks later.

The release of the movie in theaters may surprise some, especially those who know that Netflix usually prefers not to put its original movies into cinemas at all. But in the past, Netflix has used the limited theatrical release strategy as a way to put its movies forth for awards consideration, since without a theatrical window, they would not qualify.

There’s also a recent success story that Netflix could point to as justification for a theatrical release, if it felt the need. “KPop Demon Hunters” scored a big box office weekend this summer, pulling in around $19 million according to reporting from Deadline, after previous estimates had the movie topping out at $18 million.

The previous installment in the “Knives Out” franchise also got a theatrical release. “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” was given a theatrical window in 2022 as well, in an effort to get the movie some For Your Consideration attention. There are still details we don’t know about the release of “Wake Up Dead Man,” such as how many theaters will get the movie.
