Is Walmart’s new 4K replacement for the Google Chromecast launching?
The Onn 4K Streaming Device with Google TV wasn’t supposed to hit store shelves for a few more weeks.
Walmart is continuing to expand its Onn line of inexpensive streaming devices. The retailer launched one Chromecast with Google TV replacement device last year, and is almost ready to release its next model. In fact, some customers are reporting finding the newest 4K streaming device from Walmart and Onn on store shelves, ahead of when the device was officially to be released.
Key Details:
- New and improved: A new Walmart streaming dongle appears to be hitting store shelves.
- Fast enough? The stick will have 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.
- Wacky Wally: Walmart is notorious for having less-than-straightforward product rollouts.
A Reddit forum dedicated to the new 4K streaming device from Onn and Walmart indicates that the streaming stick has arrived on at least some store shelves. The buyer indicates they were able to purchase the device for $30, but found it “mixed in with a bunch [of] sticks” at their local location.
The product’s box lists features such as Gemini for TV, Google Cast, 4K capabilities, Dolby Atmos support, 2GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. From the description, the device sounds quite a bit like an upgraded version of the Walmart Onn 4K streaming puck that retails for $25 on its website.
The new streaming player doesn’t appear to be available on Walmart’s website yet, which fits with previous release patterns by the company. Often, Walmart spreads its device launches out, with models arriving in stores and online on different dates, with the official launch date treated as more of a guideline than an actual rule.
The new Onn streaming device may not be available in your area yet, so keep checking with your local Walmart if you want one of your own. You’ll be able to connect it to your set and stream apps like Netflix, Apple TV, Disney+, HBO Max, YouTube, and many more, with 4K resolution available with select content.
