At first glance, DIRECTV’s terms of service would seem to preclude password sharing, just like most other streaming services. The passage in question reads “You must keep Your password for Your account private. You are fully responsible for activities that happen under Your password and account.”
But a few lines down the page, the terms say “‘Authorized Users’ are adults You authorize to manage Your account. You can authorize them by sharing Your confidential account password with them. You also may update Your account information to name them as an Authorized User. “
This indicates that not only is sharing passwords not prohibited by DIRECV’s terms of use, but that it’s actually permissible. DIRECTV does allow customers to share their account outside the home, but there are some restrictions.
What restrictions does DIRECTV place on sharing accounts?
Customers can watch DIRECTV on three streams outside the household of the account owner simultaneously. It’s important to note, however, that only two of these out-of-home streams can be used by audiences watching on a smart TV; the other must be a mobile stream.
