PBS Travel FAST channel launches on Plex, Prime Video
The free streaming channel will soon be available on other platforms, as well.
While the Trump administration might have stripped all federal funding to public television and radio, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t still opportunities to check out the rich, educational and entertaining programming from public media. And to that end, PBS wants to help take you on a summer vacation right from the comforts of your own couch. The public broadcaster has announced the launch of a new free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channel called PBS Travel, which is now available on select free streaming platforms.
Key Details:
- Multiple platforms: The PBS Travel channel is launching on Plex and Prime Video.
- Travel the globe: Episodes of “Rick Steves’ Europe,” “Curious Traveler,” and more are headed to the channel.
- Diverse lineup: PBS Travel joins a wide range of other PBS FAST channels.
The PBS Travel channel is currently available on Plex and Prime Video, where customers can stream it at no cost. The channel will also be launching on the Samsung TV Plus free streaming service later this month; Samsung TV Plus is available to all owners of Samsung smart TVs and mobile devices.
The channel is specially curated for audiences who want to see some of the world’s most beautiful places from home. Programming on the channel includes episodes of “Rick Steves' Europe,” “Dream of Italy,” “Weekends with Yankee,” and many more titles meant to help transport viewers to another world.
“PBS Travel lets viewers explore the world from home, discovering new cultures and perspectives through trusted storytelling and familiar faces – it’s a powerful way to connect us all,” president of PBS Distribution, Andrea Downing.
PBS Travel joins a long list of other FAST channels that are sourced from public television programming, including the Antiques Road Trip, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Antiques Roadshow, PBS Documentaries, PBS Drama, PBS Food, PBS Genealogy, PBS Nature, and PBS Retro channels.
“We’re thrilled to partner with PBS Distribution to launch PBS Travel - a channel that brings the magic of travel to viewers everywhere,” CEO of American Public Television Jim Dunford said. “These programs celebrate the people, places, and traditions that make our world so rich and diverse. It’s a wonderful way to explore, learn, and be inspired - all from the comfort of home.”
