Philo Adds Family Entertainment from Free Streaming Services FETV, FMC

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.

The content offerings from live TV streaming service Philo are about to get even more family-friendly as on Tuesday, the skinny bundle service announced that it has added two channels owned by Family Entertainment Television: FETV and FMC.

FETV is a station dedicated to offering some of the best shows ever produced that are appropriate for all ages. Its programming lineup includes “Perry Mason,” “Emergency!,” “Leave It to Beaver,” “Rawhide,”
and “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,” as well as movies including the Gunsmoke Movie Collection and
the Perry Mason TV movies. FETV saw its highest monthly ratings ever in August of 2022 according to Nielsen, meaning it’s definitely a channel on the rise.

FMC is an all-movie channel, featuring family-friendly favorites with some of the most recognizable names in Hollywood history. It features a monthly premiere programming event called the “Silver Screen Spotlight,” and this month’s theme is Westerns. That means that all October long, subscribers can watch films like the “Gunsmoke” movie collection starring James Arness, “The Gambler” series of films starring Kenny Rogers, “Cowboy” starring Glenn Ford, “Coroner Creek” starring Randolph Scott and many more.

“We value the relationship we have built with Philo and are excited to bring our family-friendly content
to their subscribers,” FETV and FMC SVP Cara Conte said. “With our continued
expansion of FETV and FMC among virtual providers, we look forward to building on our ratings
momentum for both networks.”

Philo is increasingly becoming live TV service for entertainment lovers. The service offers a single $25 plan with major channels from A&E Networks, AMC Networks, Discovery, Hallmark, and ViacomCBS. These include A&E, AMC, BET, Comedy Central, Discovery, HGTV, MTV, Nickelodeon, and Paramount Network. The service also has an Unlimited DVR feature, which now keeps your recordings for up to a year.

While it doesn’t include any local or sports channels like ESPN, FS1 or NBC Sports Network, it is the cheapest option for live entertainment-only TV.

Philo also recently added support on Samsung Smart TV devices, meaning its reach to offer family programming like FETV and FMC is greater than ever before.

Philo

Philo is a live TV streaming service designed for entertainment lovers, offering flexible ways to watch without the high price of traditional TV bundles. The service now features two paid plans — Essential and Bundle+ — alongside its existing free streaming offering, giving customers a range of options depending on how much live and premium content they want.

…

The Essential plan costs $25 per month and includes 70+ live TV channels focused on entertainment and lifestyle programming, such as AMC, HGTV, Hallmark Channel, Nickelodeon, and Food Network. Subscribers also get access to 120+ free streaming channels, more than 80,000 movies and shows on demand, and unlimited DVR with one-year storage. Essential also includes a 7-day free trial for new customers.

For viewers who want more premium content, Philo offers the Bundle+ plan for $33 per month (formerly the Philo Core plan). Bundle+ includes everything in Essential, plus ad-supported AMC+ and access to the HBO Max (Basic with Ads) app. Users can also access discovery+ content directly within the Philo app. While Bundle+ adds a full premium streaming bundle for just $8 more per month, it does not include a free trial.

The service is available on most major devices, including Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, smart TVs, mobile devices, and web browsers. In addition to its paid plans, Philo also offers a free ad-supported streaming experience, allowing users to explore content before deciding whether to upgrade to a live TV subscription.

While it doesn’t include local broadcast stations or sports networks like ESPN, FS1 or NBC Sports Network, Philo remains one of the most affordable live TV streaming options for entertainment-focused viewers. With a simple lineup, generous DVR storage, and a clear path from free streaming to live TV and premium bundles, Philo is an appealing choice for cord-cutters who want to keep costs down while still enjoying a wide range of popular programming.
