Prime Video unlocks Sony Pictures Core subscriptions
The new streamer offers a curated collection of Sony Pictures movies for $7 per month.
Prime Video is expanding the library of supplementary subscriptions its customers can choose from. On Wednesday, the streaming service announced that it was adding the Sony Pictures Core subscription service to its catalog, allowing viewers to watch that streamer’s content directly through the Prime Video app for an additional fee.
Key Details:
- To the movies: Prime Video has now launched a Sony Pictures Core subscription.
- First time: Previously, Sony Pictures Core was primarily found only on Sony devices.
- Right price?: Sony Pictures Core costs $7 per month.
The Sony Pictures Core subscription features a large collection of movies and TV shows from the Sony Pictures library, both past and present. Movies like “Jerry Maguire,” shows like “I Dream of Jeannie,” and many more titles are available, as Sony has an extensive back catalog of titles to stock the streamer with.
Sony Pictures Core even includes some titles in IMAX Enhanced format for a sterling video quality. Customers can sign up for Sony Pictures Core through Prime Video on the web, on a mobile device, or on a smart TV, and watch all of its content directly through the Prime Video app.
Previously, Sony Pictures Core was only found on PlayStation devices and Sony Bravia TVs, as well as select Xperia smartphones. Its launch on Prime Video marks the first time it has become available to so wide an audience, and since Prime Video has more than 200 million customers, it’s fair to say that Sony Pictures Core is gaining access to a big new customer pool.
A Sony Pictures Core subscription costs $7 per month to add to Prime Video. In turn, Prime Video costs $9 per month to stream with ads, $12 to stream ad-free, or $15 monthly as part of the larger Amazon Prime subscription.
