Prime Video has picked up exclusive streaming rights to the Jesus-related series The Chosen

There’ll be no more confusion about where to stream the faith-based series “The Chosen” from now on. The show, which follows the story of Jesus through the eyes of his closest followers, has been available on a number of different streamers over the years, from mainstream services like Netflix to more niche offerings like UP Faith & Family. However, the show now has a new streaming home: Prime Video, which has signed an exclusive streaming rights deal to acquire the series and an oddly related, unscripted spinoff series.

Key Details:

  • Amazon’s deal for rights to “The Chosen” covers past and future episodes.
  • The deal also includes a new, unscripted series called “The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls.”
  • Season 5 of “The Chosen” hits theaters in March, and comes to Prime Video in June.

The deal signed between Amazon and “The Chosen” writer, producer, and director Dallas Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios grants Prime Video exclusive streaming rights to the show’s past episodes, as well as its future releases. It includes theatrical distribution rights to Seasons 6 and 7 of the series as well.

In addition, the agreement gives Prime Video the rights to a new series under development from 5&2 Studios and Lionsgate called “The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls.” It will feature survival expert Bear Grylls taking the cast of the show, as well as Jenkins, into the wilderness to participate in their own survival adventures.

“‘The Chosen’ has had renowned success captivating audiences across generations, and we are looking forward to collaborating with Dallas and 5&2 Studios on a larger scale,” Amazon executive Vernon Sanders said. “As we look ahead, we see massive opportunities to develop additional faith-inspired content for our global Prime Video customers.”

Season 5 of “The Chosen” will debut in theaters first, as the show has typically done for past seasons. It comes to cinemas during Holy Week beginning on March 28 and will make its Prime Video debut in June. Australia, Canada, Latin America, New Zealand, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the United Kingdom will see “The Chosen” arrive on Prime Video later in 2025.

“Amazon MGM Studios is the perfect partner to take this already highly sought-after property to the next level,” Lionsgate exec Jim Packer said. “This wide-ranging, multi-territory deal presents a unique opportunity to deepen engagement with ‘The Chosen’’s loyal fanbase while drawing in new viewers around the world.”
