Roku Channel announces addition of X Games streaming rights for 2025
The free streaming service has locked up two X Games events in the coming year.
For a free streaming service, The Roku Channel is building an impressive collection of live sports rights. The streamer already offers auto racing and baseball, and is adding a new item to that inventory this week: the X Games. Roku announced on Wednesday that it would host two X Games events in 2025, serving as the exclusive home for each.
Key Details:
- Roku Channel has won the rights to stream X Games Aspen this year.
- The streamer will also host a new X Games event in summer, which has yet to be announced.
- Roku is also adding a new, free X Games streaming channel.
Roku is now the exclusive streaming partner of X Games Aspen, which will take place from Jan. 23 through Jan. 25. It will feature some of the best action sports athletes in the world competing in both ski and snowboard events, and all the action will be available to watch for free on The Roku Channel.
That service will also show a new X Games event in summer 2025, with more details to be announced in the coming months. Both competitions will be available on the Roku Sports Channel, which launched in August and carries other live sports programming.
“This partnership with X Games is the perfect marriage between content and distribution—more than half of The Roku Channel’s monthly FAST audience are between the ages of 18 and 49, and the X Games have built a lifestyle brand that sits right at the intersection of sports and youth culture,” said Joe Franzetta, Head of Sports, Roku Media. “We look forward to using the reach of Roku to make these competitions — and the athletes at the heart of it all — accessible to millions of viewers for free.”
In addition to live X Games events, a new X Games free streaming channel is now available within The Roku Channel guide. The streamer will soon create a content hub surrounding the X Games, which will feature programming highlights, clips, interviews, archival content and more.
“As the new CEO of X Games, I’m thrilled to announce this partnership with Roku, a platform that shares our commitment to delivering the best possible experience for our athletes and fans,” said Jeremy Bloom, CEO, X Games. “This collaboration ensures that the world’s premier action sports events will reach a broader audience, while celebrating the brilliance, creativity, and passion of the incredible athletes who make the X Games the ultimate stage for action sports.”
Roku first began its career as a host for live sports in June 2023, when it agreed to a deal to stream a package of ABB FIA Formula E World Championship races. Since then the streamer has added to its inventory, snagging the Sunday Leadoff package of MLB games in May. It also hosts a new “Goof Morning Football” show first created ahead of the 2024 NFL season.
