‘Severance’ overtakes ‘Ted Lasso’ as Apple TV+’s most-watched show
The quirky fan-favorite is now in it’s second season on Apple TV+.
As “Ted Lasso” prepares to win back fans with the upcoming return of season 4, it also has another prize in sight — taking back the top series crown on Apple TV+. With season 2 now in full swing, the psychological thriller “Severance” has surpassed “Ted Lasso” as the top streamed series based on the number of unique views from January 17 through February 17, 2025.
As the most-viewed original series of 2023, “Ted Lasso” amassed over 16.9 billion minutes of viewership. In the series’ second season, it saw a 50% increase in viewers per week, making it the most-watched premiere at the time for Apple TV+. Season 3 was even hotter, with a 60% increase over the first episode of Season 2 and cementing the top spot amongst Apple TV+ series.
“Severance” has garnered critical acclaim for its second season. Fans have praised the latest installment for its adept balance between character development and surreal elements, describing it as a “mind-melting pleasure.” While Season 1 had a total of 372.1 million minutes of viewership, the record-setting Season 2 currently charts 589 million minutes viewed across all available episodes thus far — surpassing “Ted Lasso” as the most-watched series on Apple TV+ — with more episodes still to come.
In the first season of “Severance,” we were introduced to Mark Scout, an employee in the Macrodata Refinement division at Lumon Industries, a company that has developed a groundbreaking yet deeply unsettling technology that completely separates an employee’s work and personal life. Through the severance process, employees exist in two distinct states of consciousness: when at work, they have no memory of their outside lives, and when at home, they are entirely unaware of what they do at Lumon.
However, as Season 2 unfolds, Mark and his colleagues become increasingly disillusioned with Lumon and the true nature of its operations. Their growing resistance to the company’s control comes with severe consequences, as their attempts to take control of the severance barrier at the end of the first season drastically alter their reality. Their lives as they once knew them have been irreversibly changed, forcing them to confront the full weight of Lumon’s power and the dangers of defying it.
Severance
Mark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. When a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs.
