Sling to make truTV free on Orange plan for NCAA Tournament

Sling to make truTV free on Orange plan for NCAA Tournament

The streaming service will automatically add the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned channel to the Orange channel lineup for the first weekend of March MAdness.

For many basketball fans, the first two days of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament are high holy days. With wall-to-wall on-court action from noon until midnight, those two days are heaven for hoop fanatics. However, depending on your streaming setup, the first few days of the tournament can be stressful as you fumble around to figure out whether or not you have access to all of the games. Fortunately, Sling TV is making things easier for its subscribers, as The Streamable has confirmed that the live TV streaming service is once again making one of the key channels covering the Big Dance available for all subscribers.

Key Details

  • The Streamable has confirmed that Sling TV is set to make truTV available on its Orange base package for free during the first week of March Madness.
  • The Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament will air on CBS, TBS, TNT, and truTV.
  • Normally, truTV is only available on Sling’s Blue package.

The Warner Bros. Discovery-owned truTV is one of the three cable channels that will carry games in the early rounds of the tournament, alongside sibling cablers TBS and TNT. However, unlike the latter two networks, truTV is not available on both of Sling’s base packages. While the other Turner Networks are on both the Orange and Blue plans, truTV can only be streamed on Blue.

But, like the streamer did last year, Sling is making truTV available for free to Orange plan subscribers as well for the opening weekend of the tournament. That means that regardless of which base package you are subscribed to, you will be able to watch all of the NCAA Tournament games on cable from Tuesday, March 18 through Sunday, March 23. That includes the First Four Games that will air on ESPN networks on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Both the Orange and Blue plans cost $46 per month. The Orange plan has the full complement of ESPN channels, including ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN3 (which simulcasts sporting events on ABC). The Blue plan has its own set of sports-friendly channels, including FS1, NFL Network, and USA Network, as well as local ABC, Fox, and NBC affiliates, depending on region. Both packages include the aforementioned TBS and TNT.

The one drawback of a Sling subscription at this time of year is the fact that the service does not carry CBS anywhere in the country. The Paramount-owned broadcast network is responsible for broadcasting the half of the tournament that WBD does not air, and this year, that includes the Final Four and Championship Game. However, you can stream those games with a subscription to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. That will cost you $13 per month, but even when stacking it with Sling, the total of $59 per month is much cheaper than any other option.

Sling is also currently offering new customers 50% off their first month, so if you sign up now, you can watch the entirety of March Madness for just $36. Not only is this setup the best option for watching Men’s March Madness, but Sling is also the cheapest way to watch every game of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament as well. Every game of that event will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks, and there is no more expensive way to watch all of those channels than Sling.

So, for college hoops fans, now is the time to get their brackets, stock up on snacks, and sign up for Sling, because the next month is going to be a whole lot of fun.
